Hello.

I'm with Virgin (UK) on a 1g contract. Hub 5 connected to an XE75 Pro, then various other decos around the house. All worked fine until a couple of days ago, when main deco started intermittent dropouts for a few minutes at a time. Virgin hub didn't seem to be the problem (for a change).

Changed the cable, still dropouts.

Rebooted all decos in the app, and reset Virgin hub. So far so good, no further dropouts for 24 hours now.

Here's where my knowledge ends. Hub is now back in router mode after reset, as is deco. I'm reluctant to switch back to modem mode, at least for a while, as it's working. Is that bad? Are there any major implications of leaving the hub in router mode?

Or is it just as likely that the deco reboot solved the problem?

And if I do leave Virgin hub in router mode, should I switch deco to AP? I don't currently use parental controls or VPN (I have my own).

For info, I'm not a gamer, or have any other zero latency requirements. I don't really care about squeezing every last bit of speed out of the network. I'm much happier to get a solid signal all over the house, all the time. Which was the case until a couple of days ago.

Many thanks in advance.

  @Choggins

If all you need from Deco mesh is WiFi coverage, I would recommend to keep Hub in router mode and switch Deco mesh to AP mode. This is how I run Deco mesh at my house with my ISP cable router.

  @Choggins I'm running into a similar issue recently.  I bought 3 XE75 Pros for my home, and they were working flawlessly for many months.  Then after a firmware update, now the entire outbound internet connections are dropping out for 10 seconds to several minutes at a few times a day.  When there is higher load, the dropouts are worse.  Clearly, they broke something, and I am keeping an eye out for more firmware updates, but none have come in since.  All of my units are wired backhaul, and all of my computers are wired, with a total of 44 devices on the network.  But once my kids start gaming and I start working, and wife is watching a show, the internet starts cutting out (I've verified it is not at the modem).  This wasn't an issue a few months ago.

  @Supernat10 Hi there. This is no help to you, but since performing the troubleshooting steps I mentioned, my network is back running smoothly, I've had no dropouts at all. Still not sure which one did the trick... Good luck.

  @Choggins I have noticed a reboot helps, but the problem returns pretty soon.  I have my system setup to reboot nightly too.  Everything is fine as long as we aren't utilizing the internet "heavily" where "heavily" is subjective, because these devices are supposed to handle 200 devices on the network and 2 GB in/out, and I'm only running 44 devices (most are just smart switches/plugs which do nothing) and 1GB in/out, and we aren't even hitting bandwidth close to that when it fails.  Even so, it should never just stop working.  Slow down, sure...  I'm sitting by patiently waiting for a firmware fix.
