Model: ER707-M2
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.2.4 Build 20241031 to 1.3.0 Build 20250512 Rel.61917

Hi,

I am trying to update my ER707-M2 v1.20 (in the menu of the forum I just can select V1, not V1.2) as it is offered on the controller.

The controller is running on an Ubuntu Server and up to the latest version  5.15.24.1.

I tried it multiple times now but it always failes, on the Firmware page I just get the Router in the list of failed devices but not further explanation while in the protocol just the start of the upgrade is noted, nothing about the failure.

Values within the details are

my user as operator

web as source

firmware as category and

{ "sites": [ "66d98896af4d536f3a25afa0" ], "modelList": [ { "modelTypeInfo": { "showModel": "ER707-M2 v1.20", "compoundModel": "ER707-M2 v1.20" }, "currentVersion": [ "1.2.4 Build 20241031 Rel.78300" ], "targetVersion": "1.3.0 Build 20250512 Rel.61917" } ], "scheduleType": 0 } as new value

label and old value are empty.

Are there any further information I can gather why the upgrade is failing or other ways I can try to install the firmware?

I would like so use the new features especially the LAN DNS.

Best Regards

Norbert

Thank you, I put in a night-shift and changed the managing network of all devices to the default VLAN and also put the controller there. After that the upgrade worked as expected.

So I guess on my previous update, I did not have done my separation already. So even though the router should have been able to reach all ports of the controller it might just work if the controller ist with it's main interface in the default VLAN of the router.

If you have version 1.20, I don't think there is EA firmware for it, I have only seen firmware for v1. Do you do a manual upgrade or do you do it via the controller beta program in global settings.

I'm doing it via the controller Global->Firmware->One-Time Upgrade and there selecting the Release Candidate within the ER707-M2 V1.20

yes then it should work, I have upgraded two ER707-M2 in the same way, so why it doesn't work I don't know. I have v1 do you have the controller on the same LAN as the router? The router must be connected to the controller's managemnet port for it to be able to upgrade, more info about that here.

I am pretty sure I already upgraded the ER707-M2 to 1.2.4 this way. I have the controller on a VM in one of the VLANs where all other Omada devices are also put in. This VLAN is also within the router. Additionally I have a second NIC on the controller in the default VLAN of the ER707-M2.

Do you think I need to restructure everything to make the default VLAN my management VLAN?

As this is quite some things to do I would love to see other possibilities I can try before that :)

It's hard to answer that without knowing more, but what's important for upgrading the firmware is that the device, in this case the router, must have full access to the controller's management port. The same port that you use when you manage your controller, default TCP 443 on hardware controllers and TCP 8043 on software controllers.

To test that the ports are OK, you can try upgrading the router with the firmware you already have if you have it on a file ad do a manual upgrade.
