Hi, new user here :)

I just bought a T1600G-18TS for my personnals needs (well they are closer to pro needs than random end-user, hence the smart switch) and I'm unable to configure it as I would like.

Since the configuration is done using a vlan (vlan 1), I want this one isolated to a single port (n°5). That's the easy part (and done).

I've connected my DSL router to port 1. Since my dsl router is providing DHCP, I want to use that DHCP for the public vlan (as of now vlan10).

I want to connect 3 devices to the the smart switch that will use my router DHCP service on the vlan 10. I failed to make this happen.

What I have done so far :

1) create the VLAN 10 (named public) and set it as untagged on all the port I want to use that network (port 1 to 4)

2) Create an interface on that vlan as DHCP but the interface is marked as "down"

3) Enable the DHCP relay

4) Enable the "DHCP Interface Relay" on vlan 10 and setup the dhcp server IP address

The idea here that the smart switch behave as a plain dumb switch. But all my attempt failed.

On port 6-16, I plan on connecting small linux boxes that will use tagged networking for a private vlan and the public vlan. But since the 1st part still fail, I havent started on this just yet. I know how to configure the linux boxes for tagged networking, but since what I expected to be the easy part fail, I'm kind of worried here too.

Any help would be more than welcome

Hi,

If your dhcp-server is in vlan 1, and clients are in vlan 10 then you need to configure DHCP VLAN Relay.
If dhcp-server and clients are in the different sub-network, then you need to configure DHCP Relay, but as I see, it is L2 and subnetwork is the same.

Thanks for your replies :)

I found myself why it wasnt working : I was limiting vlan 1 to only 1 port. It was to limit the acces to the administration of the router while there's a dedicated option for this.

So the vlan 1 is my public vlan and dhcp is working properly.
I've used the the acces control with tthe mode "port based" and select the port I wanted for that.

I've also setup my private vlan and everything is working as expected (well some of the small linux box dont have the 8021q module, I have to rebuild a kernel for that).

Now I'm an happy customer :)

Hi

If you want this Smart switch work as dump switch, you need not configure DHCP Relay(I do not know if your DHCP server and DHCP clients in the same network segment)

For VLAN setting, you can read the FAQ, it is useful for you.
