Hi,

Just bought an AC750 Wi-Fi range extender (model RE200).

I followed the quick installation guide, but got no access to the setup page (via an Ethernet cable).

My box complains about a device in a "wrong subnetwork" (RE IP is 192.168.0.254, box is 192.168.1.254) and also about a duplicate DHCP server.

I tried to access it from my PC via it web interface to IP 192.168.0.254: No reply (The Beatles, 1964).

I tried to access it via the given alternate address http://tplinkrepeater.net/ but I got a page with a message: "Looks like something went wrong".

So, I tried to RTFM harder and found this page https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/download/re200/ where I learned that I was supposed to know that the RE has to be connected to the WAN port of my box (how come?)

I connected the RE to the WAN port, same behaviour: none.

Any help strongly and warmly appreciated.

I have to add that the RE actually works perfectly well in a LAN port of my box without doing nothing, I do have my Internet connection via Wi-Fi (the one of the box is turned off) but I'm not comfortable with devices which work fine without any config, you know.

Thank you.

@Desiderius

There may some misunderstanding.

First, the RE200 supports access point mode and range extender mode. If you want to configure it as an access point, then you need log into the web UI and switch the operation mode to access point and then connect it to the main router by wired cable; otherwise, you can connect it to the main router's wifi as a regular range extender.

The instruction to set up RE200 as access point: https://www.tp-link.com/support/faq/1401/

For range extender: https://www.tp-link.com/support/faq/1400/ or https://www.tp-link.com/support/download/re200/#video

Besides, no matter which operation mode you want to set it up, do not connect it to the main router at the first beginning. Instead, you can connect your computer to the RE200 and log into the web UI first; then you can choose one of the two operation modes. For AP, you can change it to AP mode first and connect it to the main router by wired cable, you can customize the wireless settings; for RE, you can go to quick setup to configure it with the main router's wifi password.

May it help.

Hi Kevin,

Thank you for your fast response.

And thank you for pointing out that the device has two modes. The Quick Installation Guide just doesn't mention that...

So, as I needed a hotspot, I reset the device, chose access point mode, changed its IP address to one in my box subdomain, did the parameterization (sp?), plugged the device to a LAN port of my box and Bob is my Uncle !

Many thanks again.

Regards,

D.
