Model: Archer BE550
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version:

Hey, welcome to all users from Germany!

In this article, we’d like to introduce a popular internet technology in Germany known as DS-Lite (Dual-Stack Lite). DS-Lite enables users to access both IPv4 and IPv6 content, making it a common solution as networks transition to IPv6. Many German ISPs implement this technology to provide internet access while meeting the growing demand for IPv6 connectivity.

However, not all manufacturers support DS-Lite in their networking devices. When selecting a device to work with DS-Lite, it's important to check the specifications and documentation of the router or gateway to ensure compatibility with DS-Lite.

We are excited here to offer beta firmware for the Archer BE550 V1 to our German users. This gives you the opportunity to test the firmware before its official release, allowing you to connect your BE550 to the DS-Lite internet. It also provides us at TP-Link the chance to thoroughly test the firmware in real-world network environments and scenarios prior to the official launch. We welcome all feedback!

If you’re interested in testing beta firmware for other models, please feel free to leave a comment, and we will check with our engineering team to see if we can provide a beta version for you to test.

Firmware Download:

Before the Upgrade

(1) For the sake of insurance, it's always recommended to save a copy of the router Backup Config file before upgrading or downgrading.

(3) You may follow the guide to upgrade the firmware of your router. How to Upgrade the Firmware on the TP-Link Wi-Fi Routers.

Direct Firmware Download Link

You can also download the firmware from the below link directly and update manually:

Archer BE550_V1_1.0.8 Build 20240827 (Beta version)

Configuration Notice:

After upgrading and installing the beta firmware on your Archer BE550 V1, login to its web management page and navigate to Advanced > Network > Internet, select DS-Lite as the Internet Connection Type, and set the AFTR Name according to your ISP's requirements. Save these settings, then go to IPv6, enable the IPv6 connection, and select the appropriate Internet Connection Type based on your ISP. Finally, check if you can successfully obtain an IPv6 address. If so, the connection should be established.

Additional Information

As always, we value your feedback. If somehow you encounter any issues while configuring your connection to DS-Lite, please comment below with the following information.  Your input helps us continue improving and providing the best products and support.

  • ISP (Internet Service Provider)
  • Please share any specific configuration requirements from your ISP. A direct link to your ISP's website or the configuration parameters they provided would be greatly appreciated.
  • A screenshot of the IPv6 page and the Network Map page of the BE550. (Please mask any credentials for security reasons).

  @Kevin_Z for some reason I don't have DS-Lite in my list. I couldn't connect Vodafone glasfaser in Germany. Is there any suggestion how to manage to it?

Can you find DS-Lite under Advanced > Network > Internet > WAN Connection Type page?

After selecting DS-Lite on the above page and configuring the corresponding parameters, please go to the IPv6 page and choose the relevant connection type as suggested by Vodafone Glasfaster. Then, check if you can connect to the Internet. If you are not sure, please choose Dynamic IP and check if the router can obtain the IPv6 address from your ISP.

Re:Connect TP-Link Archer BE550 to Germany's DS-Lite (Dual Stack Lite) Internet via WAN

Hello  @Kevin_Z ,
thank for the response. I'm stack on the step 1 - AFTR name. I googled and didn't find any mentions about it. I also have the working connection via another router "fritzbox" and thought that I can copy some parameters from it. And it didn't help me. How the AFTR name should look like? I also attached fritzbox settings just in case.

I tried:
- automatic AFTR name

- 2a00:0:cff:34a0::1 - got from Fritzbox router

@voloading

Thank you very much for getting back with all the details.

Could you please confirm whether there was any error message when you chose Automatic or typed in the IPv6 address manually on the BE550 web page?

To assist and figure it out efficiently, I would like to forward your case to the TP-Link support engineers who will contact you with your registered email address later. Please pay attention to your email box for follow-up.

I used this AFTR name but "ds-lite" option didn't come up in ipv6 menu. I attached fritzbox log, which is succesfully connected to Vodafone

@voloading

Does Vodafone Glasfaser require PPPoE for the IPv6 configuration? If not, please try Dynamic IP and check if an IPv6 address appears. This connection type should be provided by your ISP. If neither PPPoE nor Dynamic IP works, please contact Vodafone Glasfaser and confirm the IPv6 connection type on the router.

I apologize for any confusion in my initial post. I've updated it.

  @Kevin_Z Vodafone is not required PPPOE in ipv6, but I have to put my credentials somewhere, right? Since I choose DS-lite I can't choose PPPOE in Internet Settings. Where should I put my credentials then? I think without credentials it shouldn't work, should it?

P.S. I tried with Dynamic IP in IPv6 + DS-lite in internet settings and it's also doesn't work
