Model: EAP110
Hardware Version: V4
Firmware Version: 3.5.0 Build 20200113 Rel. 63870(4555)

Hello, everybody,

I have a Unitymedia Connect Box, where I have set up a WLAN and a guest WLAN.
Now I want to increase the range of the WLAN with an EAP110. Therefore I connected the EAP110 to a switch which is connected to the Connect Box.
Is it now better to configure the EAP110 as an access point or as a repeater?
Can anyone give me tips on configuration?

Thanks
Peter

@Peterzz Yes, you may use the same SSID/password , even the same for 2.4GHz and 5GHz.

In theory, a device should connect to the best radio station. And that's usually true in practice if you're not moving too much.

If you move away from one access point to another, then some devices will switch to the one with better signal, others will not until they completely lost the signal of the first one they connected to. That's actually the problem mesh systems try to solve, just for your information.

@Peterzz In general it's better to use it as access point because the wired connection is better than the WiFi signal you would "repeat".

@mocelet Thanks for the answer.
Can I use the same WLAN SSID that I already have?

@Peterzz You're welcome. By the way, the Ethernet port is limited to 100 Mbps in your access point, so that's the maximum speed you would get.

You wouldn't get much more speed repeating the WiFi signal anyway with that model since it doesn't feature 5GHz band.

I don't know what's the speed of your Internet connection, but take that into account if it's more than 100 Mbps.

@Peterzz

Hi Peter, glad to hear that mocelet helped you to solve your question.

The EAP110 can work as the access point only, it does not support repeater mode.

And you can customize the wireless settings and change them into the same as the main router's wifi name and password.

Good day.
