This is absolutely nuts.
I was quite impressed to be notified that my switch now supported OpenVPN - but I just can't use it without username and password.

Back in the junk pile it goes

Hi all,

I am currently using v5.1.7 and there is still no fields for usernames and passwords. Admittedly I am not a network engineer, but surely if a consumer level router like the RT-AC88U is able to achieve this, an enterprise level SDN should be able to as well?

And a shout-out to the previous contributors, for a while there I thought I was doing something wrong!

PS

Just an idea... Would it be possible to add WireGuard support in a future update?

  @damomarco

Check out my other post for some details on what i faced with it https://community.tp-link.com/en/business/forum/topic/272476

I've been meaning to spend some time looking into it to see if there's a janky fix but no time yet :/

This is a nonstarter and looks like I am lucky as I am in the 30-day window for returning back to them.

  @LUG53 we ended up buying a preconfigured vpn router and put it Infront of this one.. it's sad but this isn't a router at all more like a consumer nat gateway

  @Martin_Theobald For some time now it has been an 'Open Secret' that the Tl-ER7206 supports only OpenVPN as server, not client. You can at least partially configure it as client for OpenVPN, but it will not work. I have asked TP-Link about this NUMEROUS times - coming up on a year now - and the latest information I have on that from them was that it is slated to be fixed in a release some time this fall (a few months back I heard their dev team had it on their roadmap for the controller firmware revision 5.2 (which is now on 5.1.8). The last tme I complained to them about it I made it crystal clear that forcing people to use L2TP instead of OpenVPN for Client VPN connections severely limits the number of VPN providers the router owner can use as L2TP is old (and cracked by a variety of 9-eye governments) and supporting OpenVPN as client needed to be given a much higher priority in their development pipeline/schedule. This was about a month ago... They agreed. I was told today that it might not be in 5.2 but it would most definitely be this fall.... hope that helps. Sheesh... This is particularly painful for those of us who have bought into the Omada environment/controller paradigm.

  @Fae

Model: ER605 (TL-R605)

Hardware Version: V2

Firmware Version: 2.0.1 Build 20220223 Rel.68551

I request TP-Link to upgrade the openvpn module of TP-Link ER605 to support Username and Password authentication!

I reviewed the spec of TP-Link ER605 on the internet recently. I found that it claims supporting openvpn and I purchased ER605 V2.0 to replace my ASUS router a few days ago.

Then, I understood that I made a bad choice. I just couldn't use it to connect to my vpn provider , because it doesn't support the username and password authentication options.

Now, I have to keep my old asus router running as an openvpn client.

Please upgrade the openvpn module of TP-Link ER605 to support Username and Password authentication!
