firmware update on OC200 with controller version 4.x without cloud access

Model: OC200
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.8.0 Build 20210406 Rel.58757

I've recently updated the firmware and controller version of my OC200 to 1.8.0 and 4.3.5 (I came from controller version 3.x).

I do not have cloud access enabled on the OC200.

With the previous controller version I was able to do a firmware update check from either the Omada app or the web portal, with this new version that doesn't seem to work anymore. How can I check (and apply) for firmware updates without using cloud access?

Thanks in advance.

@Mebo

Im guessing you are referring to Firmware updates for the adopted devices?  or is it the controller itself?

The controller can be done via setting / maintenance   bottom of that panel is check for upgrade

The APs, Switches and other adopted devices show updates on the DEVICES tab.

Beside version there is an option to check for upgrade

If there is one available there will be a double up arrow type symbol beside the reset / power buttons on far right where I have marked in YELLOW

Hope that helps!

Hi @Philbert

That exact button you mention (check for upgrade), doesn't do anything, it only shows this:

Ah ok

That button only appeared in 4.3.5, it wasnt there in 4.2.11

Perhaps it is indeed a change that you need cloud access.

@Philbert

That would be really bad imo, techincally, there is no reason why cloud access is needed for this.
Will ppl from tp-link themselves react here?

@Mebo

Do you actually have any devices that have a firmware update available?

It could simply be that that button checks for updates from cloud, however it may still prompt for updates it anyways.    Until there is a firmware available we cant know that.

@Philbert

Good point, it's currently up to date.

Although in that case I'd expect to get a message there is no firmware update available ;)

Mine is cloud enabled and has no updates, but it just says (check for updates) as posted earlier.

Usually, in previous versions i noticed the double up arrow on the right when there was an update.   May be we just have to wait and see on this one

What do you see when you press the check for updates button?

@Mebo

It changes from blue to a lighter blue, after a few seconds back to origional blue.

Basically seems to start a check, but doesn't alert you in any way.

Yeah I noticed also that without cloud connection the auto update is not working for the eap and you cannot check for updates for the OC200, you need to check manually on their website. Would be great to change it back to the old implementation, where you could do all this without cloud connection. There is really no need for a cloud connection to check for updates.
