ER7206 - Unable to get full 1Gbps from ISP
My ISP gives out 1000Mbps up and down. If I take out the SFP and do the proper VLAN tagging, I rarely get over 500 up or down.
In speaking with support (who are sympathetic to the issues), we have not yet come to a logical conclusion of why when setting things up, my speeds are literally cut in half.
We have ensured all the normal things such as bandwidth control and such were off (it was all off by default).
Here are some tests I did which are all hardwired tests.
Omada Router -> MBP
Fast.com = 490 down / 200 up
Speedtest.net = 572 down / 290 up
ISP Router -> MBP
Fast.com = 970 down / 170 up
Speedtest = 670 down / 300 up
ISP’s own Speedtest site = 817 down / 315 up
Speedtest using Button on ISP router = 1200 down / 923 up
ISP Router -> Omada Switch -> MBP
Fast.com = 940 down / 210 up
Speedtest = 707 down / 315 up
ISP’s own Speedtest site = 850 down / 320 up
MBP = MacBook Pro
To eliminate the possiblity of hardware failure, I bought another ER7206 and got the same results.
To make it more interesting, a friend of a friend is successfully bypassing this router (this router is limited at best [except for getting my full ups and down speeds] and should not be used at all). This person said "You will not get 1000Mbps unless you have a cpu process". They run an old HP corporate desktop running router software and a dual port intel server nic.
With all information, is it true that I can never get my full 1000Mbps up / down from this hardware? That seems unfortunate based on the specs clearly stating it goes 1Gps.
