We’re excited to announce the official launch of TL-SM5310-T here!

 

TL-SM5310-T is the first 10G BASE-T RJ45 SFP+ Module, which provides superior 10G performance for an easy and quick connection between your SFP+ interface and RJ45 port. It covers up to 30m* at 10 Gbps (UTP cat.6a or above).

A plug-and-play design makes for easy deployment, no technician needed. High-quality metal casing ensures strength and reliability for a long time, maintaining a stable connection in a wide range of environments**.

 

*Data measured in a laboratory environment under specific conditions. The actual transmission distance may vary due to transmission speed or the cable quality and type. 

**It is recommended to place the modules separated by multiple optical transceivers or empty slots. When used in high-temperature environments, additional cooling must be applied.

 

1. Product Overview

 

  • Up to 10Gbps 

    Transfers SFP+ to RJ45 with guaranteed performance and support the data rate of 10Gbps/5Gbps/2.5Gbps/1Gbps/100Mbps

2. Application Scenario

 

(1). When you have access switch and aggregation switch in short distance, you may like to use a RJ45 network cable to connect the switches but not deploy the fiber. Therefore, you may need a SFP+ RJ45 module to convert the SFP+ slot to an 10Gbps Ethernet port.

 

(2). Sometimes you only use 1-2 SFP+ slots to connect fiber, and want to to make full use of the other SFP+ slots to connect Ethernet devices. Therefore, a SFP+ RJ45 module will be useful

 

(3). Some AX AP may have SFP+ slot to be compatible with 10Gps. But if the AP is very close to the switch, it will be more convenient to use an Ethernet cable to connect the AP to the switch but not fiber.  SFP+ RJ45 module can help you convert SFP+ slot into Ethernet port.

 

 

3. Comparison

 

We recommend that you use only TP-Link modules on your TP-Link devices.

 

Note:

(1). TL-SM331T does not support the data rate of 10 Mbps or 100 Mbps.TL-SM 5310-T does not support the data rate of 10 Mbps, but supports 100 Mbps / 1 Gbps / 2.5 Gbps / 5 Gbps / 10 Gbps.

(2). When a Gigabit RJ45 SFP module is inserted into a 10 Gbps SFP+ slot, extra configuration may be required.

(3). When the 10G RJ45 SFP+ module is inserted into a 10 Gbps SFP+ slot and the maximum rate of the peer connection port is 5 Gbps, 2.5 Gbps, 1 Gbps, or 100 Mbps, the flow control for the 10 Gbps SFP+ slot needs to be manually enabled.

 

 

4. Recommended Installation

 

The 10G RJ45 SFP+ modules consume more power than optical modules. This may result in higher heat. To avoid overheating, it is recommended to place the modules separated by multiple optical transceivers or empty slots. When used in high temperature environments, additional cooling must be applied.

 

The figures below only show the recommended positioning. The actual number of modules that can be inserted depends on the switch's heat dissipation and
power margin.

Q&A:

 

Q1：Does TL-SM5310-T support SFP slot?

   No, not support. TL-SM5310-T only supports the SFP+ slot working in 10G mode.

 

Q2：Does the Ethernet port of TL-SM5310-T support 5G, 2.5G, 1000M, 100M, 10M?

   10G, 5G, 2.5G, 1000M, 100M are supported, but 10M is not supported.

 

Q3：How long is the network cable supported by TL-SM5310-T?

   10GBASE-T: UTP cat.6a or above (max. 30m), Others: cat.5e or above (max. 100m).

 

Q4：Does TL-SM5310-T support hot swap?

Yes, but it’s not recommended to hot-swap TL-SM5310-T without gloves. Because the temperature of the module may exceed 70℃ when the environment temperature is higher than 35℃.

 

Q5：Where can I purchase the TL-SM5310-T from？

Different region may have different sales strategy, you may contact the local agent for the actual arrival and sales status of TL-SM5310-T.

I have some questions. At my first costumer with 10G in the network, I want to use a TL-SG3428XPP-M2 switch. A second switch TL-SG3452P is already in use. A server with 10GB ports is planned.

 

We want to use the four SFP slots of the 3428XPP to connect to the given SG3452 switch (with 1GBit), AND to connect to the server (with 10GBit).

The server will be an Fujitsu server RX1330 M5 with an Intel X710-DA2 2x10GbE SFP+.

 

My idea, pls correct me : I would buy 8 peaces of this SM5310, two for the server, two for the SG352P Uplink, and four for the SG3428XPP. All connected with CAT6+ cables instead of fiber cables.

Only problem is the temperature?

Or other solutions better?

If you are not gonna plug all 8 pcs or multiple of SM5310 into the same switch or side by side, you don't need to worry too much about the high temp and its performance throttle.

 

But if you are plugging all 8 pcs into a single switch or multiple side by side, then this is not ideal as the OP has explained with pictures. I would be worried about the 3428XPP with 4 pcs of SFP+ modules. If possible, you want to fix this heat issue and use 4 pcs at the same time, You should consider getting a fan or putting the switch in an AC-temp-controlled room. Maybe with an additional fan to let go of the heat.

This modules run very hot on my switch.

 

I have TL-SG3428X switch, and DDM data shows:

Environment temperature is around 26-27 C. And its idling no traffic on the port.

 

Is it safe to operate these modules around 90 C?

 

I tried these modules on my 3008F and 3016F, temps are similar. Using CAT-8 cable btw.

Hi @SteveHebler 

No, there is only Gigabit SFP port on ER707-M2 instead of the 10G SFP port, you may consider the Gigabit SFP module.
