Model: EAP670
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.0.3 Build 20220316 Rel. 51997

I just purchased and installed a new OC200 controller, ER605 router and an EAP670(US) AP.

In my controller under the devices screen it says that new firmware is available. It shows that I have version 1.0.3 Build 20220316 Rel. 51997. My first confusion or annoyance was that there is no way to upgrade it from the controller that I can find other than finding and downloading the correct firmware manually, then clicking browse etc to select the file from your computer.

Not a big deal so I go off to the TP-Link site to search for the firmware I need to do this upgrade, the controller says I need.

On the TP-Link here https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/download/eap670/#Firmware it has a drop down asking for the hardware version of the AP. Options are V1, V1.20 or V1.26. So, I check the label on the box the AP came in and it says 1.26, I check the label on the bottom of the AP and it says 1.26. Cool, I select 1.26 and view the firmware available and it shows that the latest firmware is EAP670(US)_V1.26_1.0.2 Build 20220210 which I simplify to 1.0.2 which seems to be older than the 1.0.3 I currently have on my AP now.

Confused...

Then, I look in the devices section of the controller again and it shows this EAP670(US) v1.0 next to my AP in the device list. So, did the controller detect the AP as the wrong version? Did I adopt the AP incorrectly in some way? OR, is my AP box and device itself mis-labeled as a V1.26 when it's really a V1?

IF I select V1 from the drop down on the firmware page referenced above, it shows the latest firmware is EAP670(US)_V1_1.0.6 Build 20220921 which I simplify to version 1.0.6 which would be NEWER than the current firmware my AP shows in the controller.

Again, I'm beyond confused here.

Any help on this issue would be appreciated! Thanks in advance.

  @Fonewiz

There seem to be cases where hardware is shipped from the factory with newer firmware than what is posted as the official 'latest' version.  I just experienced this with an SG2210P switch I recently purchased (the firmware on the switch is more recent than what is available on the web or in the forums).

similar experience here with EAP670 EU; box says HW V1.2, controller says V1.

I manually upgraded using HW V1 firmware v1.06 (from v1.03) without any issues.

I subsequently noticed automatic upgrade schedule options in site settings > services > upgrade schedule

Will see how auto upgrade behaves after next firmware release

If you have an OC200...Omada will handle the firmware update for the EAP670...simply log into Omada, head to Devices in the left-hand menu. You'll see "Version" at the top, click the "up arrow" icon and it'll check for a firmware upgrade for all connected/managed devices.

After it finds a new firmware, it'll notify that an update is available. You can then update from the Omada UI - a small update icon will appear in the device's "action" column. There's no need to download firmware manually, and deal with hardware versions, or guessing which file you need to download. 1.0.6 is the latest firmware for the EAP670...I've updated all 4 of mine through the Omada web interface without issues.

  @Shoresy

I figured that out a few days after I made this post. I tried to update using the controller but couldn't figure it out lol. I think I was confused by the fact that clicking the dot did nothing. Didn't realize what the up arrow was for right away.

Thanks

Yeah that's understandable...the arrow isn't really obvious unless you just happen to hover your mouse cursor over it. The automatic update schedule is nearly useless unless you're gone for a length of time and aren't around to instantly upgrade any of your devices. Any time a firmware update has been available, I've noticed the Omada web UI usually grabs it pretty quickly, often before any update file shows up on TPL's website.
