Model: Archer A6
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version:

I have a Archer A6 fibre router.  Connected to that is my PC, DECO4s and a TL-SG108S 8-port Desktop Network Switch.  The Fibre router and switch is in my office and from there I've got CAT6 cables running through the walls to various areas of the house where they connect to the DECOs and other devices.  I also have a Zyxel LTE router but that is standing on its own at the moment, not connected to anything.

Due to all the loadshedding, I find that the fibre is going down quite often and I would like to somehow bring my LTE router into the mix as a backup.  Thus, I want to somehow when the fibre goes down, that the internet in the router switches from fibre to LTE without any of the devices connected to the network or wifi "noticing".

I'm quite sure the Archer A6 doesn't have this capability but is there maybe another device that can take two ethernet inputs for internet and switch between which one to use based on the availability of the primary input?  I have/had a router that could do that (think also a Zyxel), but it is an older router that is limited to 100mbps.  Also can't remember if it only took a USB for LTE backup or an ethernet cable.

Hi,

I think you are looking for this https://www.tp-link.com/en/support/faq/529/

If I am not mistaken, at TP-Link only business-grade routers have multi-WAN capability. (at www.tp-link.com select "BUSINESS" and then click the link "Business Router")

Unfortunately, outside of the Chinese market TP-Link doesn't offer business-grade routers with built-in Wi-Fi capability.

@woozle Thanks, this looks exactly like what I'm looking for.  But nobody seems to stock it and it is also quite expensive.  The other load balancing routers (at least I now have the name for what I'm looking for), are more affordable, but only supports 100mpbs.

An alternative would be a fibre router that can take a sim card directly (and thus cut out the extra Zyxel router completely).  I've seen one from DLink, but I would prefer to stick with TP-Link since all my other devices are also from them.

TP-Link also offers routers with built-in 3G/4G (except in North America), but the more capable ones like the Archer MR400, MR500 and MR600 aren't really cheap either.
