Firmware Version: 1.5.4

Occasionally, following a reboot of the Deco network, the manual DNS settings I have configured for the IPv4 Connection are 'forgotten'.

This has certainly happened at least twice in the past couple of years and, whilst it is a rare occurrence, it's very annoying since it's really hard to persuade the Deco mobile app to let you amend any settings when it can't connect to the Internet (which of course it can't when there are no DNS servers configured) - and as far as I can see there's no way to change the DNS settings from the Web UI.

One thing I did wonder: there seem to be two locations in the app where you can set the DNS server addresses... the first is under Internet Connection > IPv4 Connection > DNS Address. The other is under Advanced > DHCP Server. I don't have the second lot set; should I?

FYI I find I need to reboot the Deco network at least twice a year - whenever the UK enters or leaves Daylight Saving Time. This is because the 'Bedtime' parental controls I have set for my kids never seems to recognise changes in DST until the network is rebooted.

  @moloko

Hi, Thank you very much for the feedback.

The DNS settings under the DHCP server are optional and the APP configuration works just the same as the web UI for Deco.

When you mentioned "the manual DNS settings I have configured for the IPv4 Connection are 'forgotten", do you mean the DNS servers under IPV4 disappeared or they did not take effect? Can you give me some examples?

As for Daylight Saving Time, Deco should be able to adapt to the new time settings automatically and does not require a manual reboot. There hasn't been much feedback about DST in the past two days. I think it might be related to the current firmware for Deco E4 since it hasn't been updated for a while.

Best regards.

  @David-TP re: 'do you mean the DNS servers under IPV4 disappeared or they did not take effect?'

They disappeared i.e. when I looked in the app under Internet Connection > IPv4 Connection > DNS Address both the Primary and Secondary DNS fields were blank. This is not the first time this has happened following a reboot - which is why the first thing I checked when no devices could connect to any websites on the Internet following the reboot were the DNS settings.

As regards to: 'As for Daylight Saving Time, Deco should be able to adapt to the new time settings automatically and does not require a manual reboot'

I agree - and when I checked the Web UI the time setting was correct. Yet it was clearly the case that the Parental Controls' 'Bedtime' setting was still using DST for calculating when to shut off my kids' internet access: I have two children, the younger child's parental control settings are set to shut off his internet access at 22:05 - it shut off at 21:05. The older child's are set to 22:30 - but it shut off at 21:30. The fact that it happened to both of them exactly one hour earlier than it should makes it seem pretty clear that the DST change must be the issue.

I did notice that when I went into the Web UI to check the time setting that, although the time was correct, the Continent/Ocean and Region drop downs were both blank. I set them to correct values (Europe and London) then rebooted the Decos (it was at that point the DNS settings were 'forgotten'). I also completely shut off the 'bedtime' parental controls for both children. The next day I re-enabled the bedtime controls and all has been working fine since.

Will be interesting to see if this happens again on March 31st next year when Daylight Savings Time kicks back in again...

I might be missing something but as far as I can tell the Web UI only allows you to change two settings. Both are under Advanced > System Status. One is the Time Settings, the other is System Parameters. So even though I could see in the Web UI that the DNS settings were missing I had no option to add them in. And trying to do so via the App when you have no internet access is very difficult for some reason - I did eventually let me do it but it took many attempts. It would be very handy to be able to change all settings via the Web UI.
