Model: EAP650
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.0.7

I have two EAP650 and want to use them in an existing home network with Mikrotik routers & switches.

I want the EAP650 to work as standalone devices (for now?) and to broadcast two SSIDs (1x for trusted clients and 1x for guests).
I've set up both SSIDs on 2,4 GHz and 5GHz and have assigned VLANs 10 and 15 to the respective SSIDs.

My assumption was that this would turn those WiFi networks / SSIDs into "access ports" where every incoming frame gets tagged with either VLAN 10 or 15 and that frame would be forwarded over the RJ45 interface.
When connecting the EAP to the Mikrotik router's "trunk port", clients connecting to the WiFi networks were unable to obtain an IP address from the respective DHCP servers.
Subsequently, I connected the EAP a computer with Wireshark running.

Wireshark does NOT show any .1q tags on incoming frames from the EAP.

It seems that my understanding of how VLAN works on the EAP is fundamentally wrong and the user guide wasn't much help.

I've failed to find threads covering this topic on the forum.

What might I be doing wrong?

TP-Link APs do send tagged frames when SSIDs are configured with VLANs. Have you run Wireshark on Windows or Linux? Windows strips VLAN tags so you can't see them.

  @KJK

Huh - really? You learn something new every day.
Thanks for the information, so that part of the problem is solved.

edit: for clarification, yes it's a windows machine.
