My wife's work computer is making dhcp requests really quickly.  Up to 8 times per minute.   As she works for a large corporation, she is not too keen on digging around on that computer as it likely has monitoring software on it.  So, i have to start from the non-invasive side... the router.    I do not see any mac specific lease timeout set, and can not figure out what would cause this....As well it should be noted that this happenes both when she is logged on, and in the middle of the night when the computer is hibernating. Windows 10 system, she does not surf the net with that computer, very unlikely that she has caused an infection by viruses or trojans.

Thanks for posting in our business forum.

Any computer from the company property should be installed with a monitoring tool. And I am not surprised if you find one on her computer.

Usually, they should not pose a problem to the network. Or DHCP.

 

From the log, I see that is so frequent. The router does not have a problem like that. Nor have I received a report internally about the DHCP problems recently.

I prefer to believe that this is a problem on her computer.

You should verify her MAC address first.

Hibernate status is not actually sleeping and stopping all the connections. You probably should try to sleep the computer during the night.

Give it a try by Wireshark and see if her computer is frequently requesting the IP address. Filter keyword should be "dhcp". If her computer is indeed sending this frequently, there is no way from us to stop it. Try to set up a static IP on her computer so that DHCP discovery stops. How Does DHCP Work?
