Single AP, simple configuration with 1 SSID and Omada Essentials .

If I lose the internet connection from my ISP's router, , I notice that wifi gets disconnected and the SSID is no longer broadcasted. What could be the reason?

The WiFi SSID only lasts for 3 minutes and then disappears.  I regain the SSID broadcast when the internet comes back.

Omada EAP650 ,

I understand that if the AP loses connectivity with the cloud controller, the AP does not stop working, except for the captive portal or mesh with another AP. Is that correct? Because here, I directly lose the WLAN network a few minutes after losing the internet.

I need Help , Thanks .

Hi  @Elita2000

Yes, your understanding is correct.

Disconnected from the cloud shouldn't affect SSID broadcast.

Please help us confirm the following:

1. When you notice the SSID is not broadcast, did you check all of your wireless clients' wifi list? it's disappeared from all of them?

2. When the issue happened, what's the LED status of the EAP?

3. How can you make the EAP SSID show up again? reboot ISP router? Or reboot the EAP?

4. Will this issue happen every time the ISP router is disconnected?

5. How did you power on the EAP?

Hi  @Vincent-TP

all devices stop seeing the ssid , The LED status is flashing blue.

the ssid is recovered when the internet returns, instantly.

It is not necessary to restart the ISP router, nor to restart the AP.

This always happens when there is no internet at the premises, the router is working correctly, it is curious because it is a simple installation with a router and an AP, and the controller in the cloud. I do not understand why tplink requires having internet for an AP to broadcast its SSID.

Omada essential is a great cloud solution, except for this.

  @Vincent-TP

Someone told me to use the option in Omada, Site, Connectivity Detection, what is this function? Is this necessary so that the APs or devices always broadcast even if the local network does not have internet?

Does anyone else have this happen to their Omada cloud?

Thanks @Vicent-TP

Hi  @Elita2000

This is weird.

We don't require the Internet to broadcast the SSID.

Did you configure any advanced settings on the SSID?

What's the firmware and hardware version of the EAP650?

If you don't mind, please factory reset the EAP and configure it again.

Hi  @Elita2000

Is the mesh feature enabled?

Please disable the Mesh feature when the Internet works and see if the issue will persist.

  @Vincent-TP

Indeed, if I disable the mesh option, the network continues to broadcast the SSID. The problem is that if I have another AP and it has to go via mesh, then I must enable this option and I would be in the same situation in case the internet on my gateway goes down. Vincent, can this situation be emulated and we can see why this problem occurs? Thanks Vincent

Hi  @Elita2000

We will try.

Please let us know how the topology of the network, including the model number of the router, your Internet service provider, and how is the EAP connected to the router. Thanks.

  @Vincent-TP

The topology is simple, as a router I have a deco m5, connected to it is the ethernet of the ISP WAN and in the other port the AP eap650, as an option I also tried in this last port to put a layer 2 switch and connect the AP here, but it still gives the same problems. I also tried this same network topology with another ISP router, both stop emitting ssid when there is no internet or gateway, when the controller is in the cloud the Omada essential. I think you can do the tests with the same topology and with another AP managed by Omada essential ,Thanks Vincent

Hi  @Elita2000

Confirmed, this is how the EAP was designed:

EAP units with mesh enabled will enter the ISOLATED state if the destination (the destination IP is a gateway by default) is not reachable and is not managed by the controller, stopping the broadcasting of the SSID. This is to prevent the clients from keeping connecting to the SSID but having no Internet access.

We don't have a plan to change the design yet.

When the router lost Internet, why do you still need wifi broadcasting?  Do you have internal services that are connecting to the wifi?
