Region : UnitedKingdom

Model : TD-W8968

Hardware Version : V3

Firmware Version : 0.9.1 0.4

ISP : Zen

Trying to get a setup where old-but-fast (see other thread) DG834PN is the ADSL modem, with cabled connection to WLAN port of my D5,
which then acts as firewall, NAT, router, wireless access point etc. for my home network.

Can't find any description of exactly how to configure this -- in particular, having configured the DG834PN as modem-only,
do I then need to configure the D5 to do the login to my ISP? If so, how?

D5 can support your ADSL line.

Indeed it will, but at 50% the speed of my old Netgear, see post a few days ago: http://forum.tp-link.com/showthread.php?77567-New-TP-Link-AC1200-aka-Archer-D5-50-slower&region=china

You can try AP mode and use DG834PN as modem router.
There is a similar instruction for different models which should be helpful in your case.

By the way, did you compare upstream and downstream on DG834PN with D5?

Yes, I finally got that working, the secret is to use distinct subnets for your LAN and EWAN

Yes, upstream is identical to either on their own.
Downstream single-port is perhaps a little down from DG834PN on its own, but much better than D5.
Downstream multiple-port is pretty much the same as the other two.

I heard change DSL modulation type to ADSL2+ may improve upstream and downsteam. But if you use AP mode, it doesn't really matter. AP mode works OK now??

I've tried both modulation types with PPPoA, no difference, still 50% slower than old modem

You should report this problem and what you've done to http://ticket.tp-link.com/index.php?/Tickets/Submit. Hope it helps.
