Model: EAP670
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version: 1.1.1

There is EAP670 in standalone mode. Handling severral SSIDs

Occasionally clients loosing their connection: they shows themself on wifi, but there is no internet.

Happens on windows / android / ios. Usually happens after time of inactvity.

Other clients on the same AP/SSIDs - are ok and still have connection.

Same client works ok if reconnect.

Diagnostic shows:

client: windows

ipconfig shows correct IP

ping to router - does not work

ping to AP - does not work

AP: EAP670

shows the problematic client as connected (last case it was connected for 19h+)

there is no diagnostic tools on the AP web interface.

system logs on web page almost empty (few incorrect password records from other clients only)

router: opnsense

ping to AP - works

ping to client - does not work

ping to other clients - works

ping to client after it reconnected to wifi - works

It seems that connection is lost between AP and the client.

Any advise?

Thank you for reporting the issue and providing detailed troubleshooting information. We need to confirm the following details:

1. How many clients are on this network totally? How many are wireless clients connected to the EAP?
2. After "time of inactivity," how long is it? A few minutes or over ten minutes?
3. Does this issue happen to all clients? Are there any clients that never experienced this problem?
4. When did you first notice this issue? Did it exist since the EAP was installed or after some normal usage?
5. What is your network topology? Is the EAP directly connected to the router? Are there VLAN settings?

Your answers will help us locate the problem. Thanks.

In the meantime, please refer to the following to optimize the wifi perfomance for the EAP:

client 20, wireless - 19.

2. After "time of inactivity," how long is it? A few minutes or over ten minutes?

I would say it was days.

3. Does this issue happen to all clients? Are there any clients that never experienced this problem?

I remeber a few occasions on iphone, windows and anrdoid tablet.

4. When did you first notice this issue? Did it exist since the EAP was installed or after some normal usage?

those issues was in first two weeks after EAP was installed.

5. What is your network topology? Is the EAP directly connected to the router? Are there VLAN settings?

network - single opnsense router + single standalone EAP directly connected to router

no VLANs

EAP is not controlled by Omada Controller (not even cloud)

There are around 5 SSIDs on 2g and another 5 SSIDs on 5G wifi.

Some SSIDs have the same name (between 2G and 5G). Some - exists only on one band.

6. Update

After I created this topic, I went to settings and disabled "Band Steering"

Since then I haven't experienced same issue. However, having that issue appear only once a several days - it is hard to say this for definite
