Hi folks,

I'm new here and am not sure if I've been here before or not.

As is, I have an EDGEMAX router (5 port) and a 24 port TP link switch working.

Alas the 24 ports are running out for new connections.

I've sort of worked out how to "get into" the switch and have it configured / working in that I can log into it now.

But setting up the VLANS is not seeming as easy as it was on the 24 port switch.

(Though it is probably newer than this switch)

Anyway, the idea is that I am sending a "TRUNK" from the EDGEMAX router with the VLANS as per the other switch.

Luckily I am using another ethernet port on the ROUTER and just copied the existing/working settings from one ethernet port to the other.

Plugged into the switch - after reset - and set up the IP address.   Then plug an ethernet cable into the switch from the router and I can see things.

Ports 1 - 4 are UNTAGGED on VLAN 17 and TAGGED on all other ports.

Then the other ports are grouped to their ports as UNTAGGED and TAGGED on port 1.

In posting this, I see a problem as I am pluggged into port 2 of the switch.

I can post the config - but won't just now as I am new here.

I would also post screen shots to show what I mean, but again: shall wait and see what help comes my way.

Thanks in advance.

Andrew

How to Configure VLAN on TP-Link Switch

If you mean that you don't have an IP address on the 1-4, you gotta configure PVID as well.

  @Clive_A

Thanks.

I did miss that part.

Also (for now) I have a fixed IP set for (I think) for port 1.

Port 0 is the preferred port for the TRUCK but just now I have the ethernet plugged into port 1.

I'll have to disable the fixed IP and enable DHCP and see what happens.

Problem is, if it doesn't work, I have to reset the switch.
