well, yes - and no.

The first post was to get the 16 port switch set up with VLANS.

Got that working, and thanks.

So the next "step" is to connect it to the network.

As a "BASE LINE" I used a spare ethernet port form the EDGErouter and copied the "existing/working" one to the spare.

Then I plugged the switch in and it worked.

Nice.

But it would be nicer - cable wise - to not plug it in the ROUTER, but the existing 24 port switch I have.

(It is going to be an extension of the existing switch)

So, the existing switch has a TRUCK input and it's other 23 ports are VLAN'd out as needed.

What I want to do is make it 22, and the one I "stole" would become a ...... bridge (which I think is a better term) and an output (to call it) that goes to this 16 port switch.

Clearer?

Oh, ITMT, my local LAN has gone to h*ll in a hand basket and I am in damage control mode just now trying to get it working agian.

To clarify:

The first post was asking for help with the 16 port switch.

Now I am asking for help how to configure the 24 port switch so the 16 port can plug into it and work as it did when plugged directly into the ROUTER.

Trunk it and it will pass on to the 24-port SW and you can cascade 16-port and any switches. As long you move on, if you expect the VLAN to be passed on to the next, you gotta config VLAN(or Trunk).

About the system, when a message is edited, it will trigger another time notification as "someone mentioned you".

Yes, referring back to your reply:

That's fine.

I need help to set the 24 port switch so it "passes on" the TRUNK to the next (16 port) switch.

All things being good, it will then work, as it should see the same "input" as it (the 16 port switch) saw from the ROUTER when it was plugged directly into it.

(How I got it working.)
