Hi, I have a question regarding the DDNS feature on TP-Link routers.

I understand that the router updates the DDNS record with the current public IP address. Since my ISP assigns a dynamic IP, I'm wondering:

How often does the router check for IP changes?
If the public IP changes, how quickly will the DDNS record be updated?
I noticed that when my public IP address changes, the DDNS record still keeps the old IP, which prevents me from accessing or controlling the router via the DDNS domain.

Thanks in advance!

Hi @Rya_C_Newtaipe,

Welcome to our community.

The IP update time is about half an hour to one hour.

May I know if your network topology diagram is as follows:

ISP modem—router)))((( client devices

(Note: — stands for wired connection,)))((( stands for wireless connection )

What is the type of your DDNS? No-IP or TP-Link DDNS?

Here are some suggestions that may help you:

1 You should log in to the corresponding DDNS website management interface and check whether the IP is consistent with the WAN port address of the router to make sure that the IP bound to the DNS is updated in real time.

2. Ping DDNS to verify if the returned address is consistent with the WAN IP.
3. Please try updating the DNS server address to a known and reliable one, such as 8.8.8.8 or 8.8.4.4.

For detailed troubleshooting, please refer to this FAQ:
Troubleshooting Guide of DDNS function

Best Regards.
