Need TTL Modification Support on ER706W-4G v1 for Mobile ISP Compatibility
Hello TP-Link Team,
I am currently using the ER706W-4G v1 router as my main internet gateway through the built-in 4G LTE modem (via SIM card). While the router works reliably, I’ve encountered an important limitation that affects compatibility with my mobile internet provider.
Many mobile carriers detect and throttle internet connections based on TTL (Time To Live) values to enforce hotspot restrictions. In my case, this is resulting in reduced speeds or connection limits when sharing the connection across my local network.
Unfortunately, I could not find any option in the GUI to adjust or rewrite TTL values, and I understand that SSH access is not available on this model. This leaves me with no way to perform TTL rewriting directly on the router, which is critical for bypassing mobile hotspot detection.
What I Need:
-
A method to rewrite TTL values (e.g.,
--ttl-set 65
) for all outgoing packets. -
Either a GUI option or CLI access (SSH or debug mode) to manually apply iptables rules.
-
Alternatively, the ability to upload custom firewall rules or firmware updates that allow TTL manipulation.
Why It Matters:
-
Many users, including myself, use this router in rural or mobile scenarios where 4G is the only available internet source.
-
Without TTL modification, mobile ISPs classify the router as a hotspot and apply restrictions, leading to unusable speeds and connectivity issues.
Request:
Please consider adding TTL rewriting support to the firmware of ER706W-4G v1, or at least provide a hidden way (SSH, debug menu, or custom script upload) for advanced users to configure TTL values.
This feature would be a massive improvement for mobile internet users, and would increase the router’s flexibility and market value.
Thanks in advance for your support.
Best regards,
