Hi, where I live we don't have wired broadband so my current setup is: 4g antennae - huawei router - tplink ethernet switch.

I have connected four ethernet cables to the switch, which take the signal to four ethernet data access points in different rooms of the house.  I would like to install a wifi extender at one of these data points, which receives the internet signal via ethernet and then transmits it by wifi.  This room is a long, long way from the router so it's really important that the extender receives the signal via ethernet, and not wifi.

Is this possible with tp-link extenders? If so please could you recommend what model I should buy and how I can configure it.

Thanks in advance for any help :)

Hi@jugsmitt ,

Welcome to our community.

Do you want to connect an extender through a LAN port of the Switch to extend the WiFi coverage of your home?

Conventional range extenders are actually mainly connected to the main router via WiFi, but in your environment, this is easily affected by environmental interference and affects wireless transmission. Of course, most range extenders have Access Point mode, which can connect to the main router via Ethernet to obtain the network.
You can also consider Access Point directly.

In addition, if you need this extender to provide network to both wireless and wired clients, then you can consider a regular wireless router. It can be set to Access Point mode to avoid double NAT problems.

Best Regards.

@Joseph-TP thanks for your response joseph.  I believe what I need is a range extender operating in access point mode.  please can you recommend a tp-link product that will be compatible with my existing router and switch set up.  thanks

Hi@jugsmitt,

Thank you for your reply.

We recommend purchasing and using an extender with the same Wi-Fi protocol as your router.
