Didn't manage to find a report on this issue in the forum, so here goes:

 

Recently tried upgrading my EAP655-Wall AP to firmware version 1.4.2, but noticed speeds significantly dropping after the upgrade.

Usually I get around 900-920 Mbps both up and down standing near the AP, and after this upgrade I've noticed speeds dropping to around 300 Mbps up and down (and looking at the Omada controller page for that AP i see a lot of retried packets in the statistics).

Tried re-adopting the AP and different channels, and the issue persists.

 

Reverting back to version 1.3.1 solves the issue (i see near 0 retried packets, and speeds go back to normal).

 

This is running on an SSID tagged to a VLAN.

I managed to fix it with support from the TP-Link team. On my side the issue was related with their new prohibit wifi sharing feature. Apparently it requires additional hardware resources which the EAP655-wall V1 does not have, and causes this problem. 

 

Turning it off resolved it.

Thanks for posting here. 

 

To confirm, when conducting speed tests before and after the downgrade, did you use the same speed test software, the same wireless client, at the same distance from the AP, and was the AP on the same channel? In other words, was the firmware the only variable?

hi  @Vincent-TP 

 

that is correct. tried on using the same software (both the SpeedTest app to the same test server, and locally to a truenas server connected to a 10gbps fiber link which is more than capable of exceeding those speeds), same wireless client (a lenovo T14 laptop with a qualcomm Fastconnect 6900 Wifi 6E card), at the same distance from the AP, on the same channel (tried different channels as well in both version of the firmware - 1.3.1 works fine, 1.4.2 always has the same issue).

 

i have 2 other APs nearby in the same network, on different channels (both are EAP 653's on version 1.1.3) and those work just fine.

 

I've also made sure I'm using 5Ghz only on that SSID to minimize potential interference.

I can confirm I’m experiencing the exact same issue.  
I rolled back to version 1.3 and the issue disappeared.
Any update about this?
