Notes

  1. Please note that Controllers on different platforms may have some differences in features, even if their first three digits of the version code are the same. For example, the Linux Controller currently supports Cluster Mode but the Windows Controller doesn't support it yet.
  2. The Omada SDN Controller can only manage certain devices running the supported firmware. Please confirm that your device is compatible with the SDN Controller.
  3. Since version 5.14.32, Omada Software Controller no longer supports upgrade from Controller v4.
  4. To strengthen overall security, we recommend upgrading all devices to the latest firmware.

I found most of it a little here and a little there. It's not all together like it used to be. :-)

A lot of good things in this version, but I don't like how the switch profile has become. The ability to create a switch profile with VLAN configuration, you should get that back.

  @MR.S

I was trying to make sense of this in the changelog but its written in a confusing manner.  Are switch port profiles totally gone now?  If its per-port only now, are they carried over properly from what profile the port used to be set to?

If its settings-per-port now, thats a nightmare for those of us with tons of port configs - the ability to simply edit a profile and it applies everywhere was useful

Main: ER8411 x1, SG3428X x1, SG3452 x1, SG2428LP x1, SG3210 x1, SG2218P x1, SG2008P x3, ES208G x1, EAP650 x6 Remote: ER7206 v2 x1, ER605 v2 x3, SG2008P x2, EAP650 x2, ES205G x1 Controller: OC300

  @Vincent-TP

The new switch port stuff is ....weird

You can still edit port profiles and apply them to a port, but it doesnt change the port native/tagged settings at all ?

I edited this switch port that had the correct port pvid inherited from my config and previously set profile from controller 5.15.  I selected a different port profile, and you can see the profile is changed, but the pvidnative of the port remained what it was.

This is a mess

-- "and introduced cross-device bulk management of Tag, Network, and Profile settings in Device Config > Switch Ports > Port Settings."

If you have a number of switches its just a WALL OF PORTS - it needs distinct seperation bewteen switches.  A much better approach would be to use the same visual representation of the switches and their ports as you get in the LAN add/edit screen now.  It really helps to visualise which port is what when you have hundreds of them

--GOOD

NOT GOOD

Other Observations

-i immediately noticed this.  Why is MAC Filtering in the ACL tab of managing the gateway> surely it should be its own option in the list on the left?

- As Mr.S said, the insights tab should have IDS/IPS threat reports, VPN status in it as well at minimum

- I think the DNS Cache and DNS Proxy tabs are the wrong way around in the two places i found them - you can't enable cache without proxy so proxy should come first

- This is very bad wording for what i think is a switch-only vlan?  A vlan doesnt have to have a DHCP server, and the presence or lack of one on the gateway doesnt define it as a gateway interface or a switched vlan, this is nonsensical!

Which gets even more strange when you can select an omada switch - i presume here - as the DHCP server, relay or none

Perhaps a better way of wording this is "VLAN Host" > "Gateway, List of Switches, Other"

-Sad to see gateway LAN<>LAN ACLs still dont support ip groups or ip port groups, which i think was mentioned as on the roadmap for 5.16 ages and ages ago, which obviously became v6 :-(

Overall, this is a MAJOR interface change from anything we have had before.  I kinda like it - overall the placement of things is more logical, but its such a big change it will take some getting used to, but im just playing around on a windows controller in a VM with a restored backup from my OC300 so cant really do much

Main: ER8411 x1, SG3428X x1, SG3452 x1, SG2428LP x1, SG3210 x1, SG2218P x1, SG2008P x3, ES208G x1, EAP650 x6 Remote: ER7206 v2 x1, ER605 v2 x3, SG2008P x2, EAP650 x2, ES205G x1 Controller: OC300

  @GRL

yeah the new controller is a bit messy, especially the switch profiles. it seems poorly thought out, i hope it's just a bug in the beta version and will be fixed in the final release.
