Dear anyone,

I'm at a loss, my switch had the port that is connected to the modum suddenly start blinking slowly. Both the green and amber light blink slowly and consistently. When I disconnect the cable from its port and then reconnect it, it will briefly flicker the green light and go dark and then start blinking both the green and amber light slowly. From what I could find online, this would suggest a loop. This also occurs when my the switch is the only thing connected to the modem.

My set-up is modem > switch > others (like desktop and routers)

I have also noticed that changing the set-up to modem > router > others. I do get my internet connection back, but unstable. This is why I don't suspect the cable of being faulty, but the switch. The connection is occasionally slow while also reaching over 800Mb/s during speed tests.

I can't turn off/on the loop protection, as suggested online, because I can't seem to log into the switch. The suggested ip 192.168.0.1 takes me to the router (Archer AX55) instead. Disconnecting everything but the switch, so switch > dekstop also doesn't seem to allow me to log into the switch.

This switch has worked properly for 2 years and now suddenly there are issues. What can I do?

Kind regards,

Denny

Thanks for your post. Why are you placing the switch between the modem and the router? The switch probably can’t obtain an IP automatically from the modem, and its default static IP may be the same as your router’s, which will cause an IP conflict. You can disconnect the router and modem, connect a PC to the switch, give the PC a static IP in the 192.168.0.x range, log into the switch’s management interface, and change its IP to a different subnet. Alternatively, you could change your router’s IP to another subnet.

Have you tried to reset the switch with the reset button?  That will perform a factory reset.  You must press and hold the button for some 5 seconds and then wait for a minute or two while the switch resets.
