Model: Deco X50
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.4.6

Our internet speed is 1000mb/s when plugged into the AP and straight into a desktop computer. When the Ethernet cable is removed the wireless speed is 280mb/s or thereabouts. We've reset all three APs, and checked Ethernet cables (which make no difference as hardwiring to AP delivers the speed).

Can you please help

Thanks for reaching out. I understand that when you connect your desktop directly to the AP via Ethernet, you achieve your full 1000 Mbps internet speed, but when switching to Wi-Fi, your speed drops to around 280 Mbps. You’ve already reset all three APs and checked the Ethernet cables, confirming that wired speeds are as expected.

Here are some steps and suggestions to help you accurately measure and potentially improve your wireless speed with your Deco Mesh system:

1. Accurate Speed Testing:
• Please use https://www.speedtest.net or the Speedtest app/CLI (https://www.speedtest.net/apps/) to test your speed.
• Ensure that no other devices are using significant bandwidth during your test (such as streaming or downloading).

2. Check Your Wireless Connection:
• Make sure your phone or laptop is connected to the nearest Deco unit and is using the high-speed band (5GHz or 6GHz, not 2.4GHz).
• The actual Wi-Fi speed can be affected by the distance from the Deco, physical obstructions (walls, furniture), and interference from other wireless networks or devices.

3. Optimize Your Deco Settings:
• In the Deco app, go to MORE > ECO Mode and ensure ECO Mode is disabled.
• Go to MORE > QoS and make sure QoS is disabled. If you don’t see an on/off switch, set it to standard and remove all priority devices.
• Go to MORE > Advanced > NAT Forwarding and disable SIP ALG and UPnP.

4. Additional Troubleshooting:
• Try different speed test servers, as some may provide better results.
• If possible, test with another device to see if the speed issue is device-specific.

5. Understanding Wireless Limitations:
• Wireless speeds are typically lower than wired speeds due to environmental factors and device limitations. The maximum achievable Wi-Fi speed depends on the Wi-Fi standard supported by both your Deco and your client device, as well as the link speed negotiated between them. If you’ve tried all the above steps and still experience slower-than-expected speeds, please contact TP-Link support with the results of your troubleshooting.
