Issue with IOT devices disconnecting randomly every couple of days
I have IOT devices in a separate WLAN and LAN configuration which are randomly going offline, started about 2 months ago. The issue is random, in terms of timing, and the devices are also different brands (smart lights, smart plugs). The issue does not occur with other devices in separate WLAN such as my phone or laptop.
I have tried to investigate the cause, and I did find a log which shows that it's likely a DHCP lease issue, as right before it goes offline I found this log:
Gateway DHCP Client Module Information
WAN: DHCP client lease expired. Began renewing the lease.
Sep 09, 2025 08:58:38 pm"
I tried fix it with a DHCP reservation, didn't work. The only temporary workaround is to either reboot the Router or the Access Point which brings the devices back online until the next time they randomly go down.
The folliwing troubleshooting has already been tried to no avail:
- Configure the 5GHz band to use Auto Channel selection.
- Lower the DHCP lease time.
- Install a beta firmware on the EAP .
- turned off all Multicast/Broadcast Management features
- only 1 access point, not multiple, not in standalone mode.
THE AP is on the latest firmware. Other than potentially recreating a WLAN network which may or may not work, and also setting up a reboot schedule every night which is not ideal by any stretch of the imagination. IS there any ideas on why this could be happening? And How I can investigate further on the DHCP server side of things why it may not be able to assign a lease after the lease is expired?
Thank you
