Model: ER7206 (TL-ER7206)
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version:

Hello,

I'm currently using an ER7206 v1 in my Omada SDN.
Now I would like to have a replacement router as a backup in case something happens to the existing router.
It would be dramatic if the internet no longer worked at home ;)

A friend has upgraded and is selling his old TL-ER7206 v1.
But I saw that it was EOL :(

Can i still buy it as a backup or should i buy a new ER7206?
I haven't found any technical specifications anywhere that differentiate the two models?
Also both have identical firmware versions at the moment.
Or could I use a cheap ER605 v2 with a median converter for my fiber internet as a backup?

Thanks :)

TL-ER7206 is the old old pre-v1 model and along with its ER7206 v1 cousin is long since EOL with no further updates or features.  Dont buy one of these

ER7206 v2 and ER7406 are essentially the exact same hardware but in different form factors (desktop vs full rackmount with internal power supply)

From my point of view, it is always better to buy new if your budget allows it.  You then have the satisfaction of a guarantee.  In your case, you might also consider the ER7406.  I personally don't like external power adapters and decided on the ER7406 over the ER7206.

According to the specifications, the ER7406 doesn't have anything that the ER7206 doesn't also have?
At least according to the specifications on the TP-Link website.

Therefore, the question is, why spend more money for no added benefit?

By the way:

My ER7206 v1 also has an integrated power supply ;)

@lukass2000 Check the controller software version and both gateway firmware versions are compatible.  If the gateway firmware is not compatible with the controller things can go badly wrong.

It is true that the specifications appear to be the same.  When I purchased the ER7406, the ER7206 models that were available were V2.x models and according to the Omada website, featured an external power adapter.  I assumed the price difference was due to the ER7406 having an internal power supply.  As I have no more room for external power adapters where the gateway is mounted, the choice was easy.

Aside from the power supply...
So the ER7406 is newer, considerably more expensive, but offers no technical advantage?

There are currently three identical routers with identical specifications, but extremely different prices?
TL-ER7206, ER7206, ER7406?

Don't make my decision easier wink

Okay thanks, I just noticed that the ER7406 is larger (The size wouldn't matter to me.).

So I'll look for an ER7206 v2,
Think that's the most sensible solution, and the router is currently only serving as a backup in case the ER7206 v1 I'm using fails smiley
