Omada/EAP245 incompatibility with Samsung/android mobile devices?!
Hi all,
recently I upgraded my wifi at home and added 3x EAP245 (v3) APs connected via PoE to a TL-SG2008 Switch.
Switch and APs are managed by an Omada software controller.
I configured the network to use 3 different VLANs for internal, guest and IOT traffic. And also some separated wifi SSIDs map to the different VLANs.
Now I face 2 issues that really start to annoy me.
1) I face a strange behavior on my Samsung mobile phones: Sometimes the wifi connection seems to stall. E.g. when I watch videos on youtube, it often happens that the playback stops (with a spinning wheel), even when the AP is just a few meters away from the mobile phone. When I disable and enable wifi again (basically reconnect to wifi), everything is ok again. Sometimes it just need to open the wifi settings and the connection is stable again.
I see this behavior with different samsung devices (S10 and S23)
And I faced this issue also with my former wifi setup consisting of RE500 repeaters. Hoped it would be gone with moe modern hardware.
2) the even worse isssue: it looks like my mobile phones are not reachable from other devices in the same wifi.
When I try to connect from my laptop to a server on my mobile phone (HTTP running on port 8765), the connection is timed out.
And also the phones itself seem to dont see each other. When I start a wifi analyzer app (like wifiman) on the two phones, they see all the other devices in the whole network but not each other.
(I did NOT have this behavior in the former RE500 setup)
There is no client isolation/guest-wifi activated in this wifi.
I just have no clue what might cause these issues.
I'm already thinking about replacing the TP-Link APs with other brands. It's really frustrating, since I kinda like my TP-Link hardware.
Any ideas out there?!
Thanks for any help...
Rainer
