Deco BE65 - SKY frustration
Deco BE65 - SKY frustration
Hi all, Please help
just bought a new TP Link Deco Be65 (triple pack)
everything seems to be working well except my sky q and sky mini box. I read TP link advise to hard wire these but these were working fine with my old ISP mesh (EE/BT whole home) is there anyway I can this working over Wi-Fi, I have tried a number of things
turned off fast roaming in app
turned off beamforming in app
given devices static IP's
tried forcing it to closest node which is main node
tried forcing it to 2.4ghz in app
uldated tp link firmware
whatever I try the sky boxes go offline all the time, they do seem to reconnect themselves afterwards
so frustrating as this kit is not cheap and I really like it but if I cannot get it to work with sky i will be forced to send it back to shop:

hi Carguy thank you for your message i don't think I can just disable 5ghz as I am sure the sky q mini needs to talk to sky q main over 5ghz
i think 2.4 is used to connect to home Wi-Fi and 5 is used for the sky boxes to communicate which is needed otherwise the sky q mini stops workig
regarding the nodes i have tried telling the devices that were disconnecting to use certain nodes (nearest) and they still drop for example my ring camera is right next to main main node (router) and still drops but that is since I added the 4th node.
i really don't know what steps to take now

Try it and see. Or at least try halving the channel with for 5GHz. It didn't cause any issues when I did this on my own Sky Q setup.

If you cannot run cables, your Sky Q network and Deco mesh will be forced to share the same airspace. To minimize drops:
- Put your TP-Link Deco system into Access Point (AP) mode via the Deco app. This stops double-NAT issues and allows your existing router to manage IP addresses.
- In the Sky Q engineering menu, change the 5 GHz Wi-Fi channel from its default (usually channel 36) to avoid the channels your Deco is broadcasting on.
As I am still learning please let me know if the above steps didn't help
Thanks.

Powerlines can be useful in a pinch. Fun fact, the original Sky Q boxes had powerline technology built into them but it was disabled by default and accessible only from the hidden menu before they took it away with a hardware revision. A shame really as it worked well.
