Model: ER7206 (TL-ER7206)
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.4.3 Build 20251027 Rel.82388

Hello,

I currently have a TP-Link ER7206 v1.0 router running firmware:

1.4.3 Build 20251027 Rel.82388

I purchased a new ER7206 v2 unit and would like to migrate the configuration from the v1 device to the v2 device.

My current configuration includes:

  Dual WAN configuration
  VPN users and settings
  DHCP reservations
  Firewall/NAT rules
  Load balancing settings

Before proceeding, I would like to confirm:

  Is configuration backup/restore supported between ER7206 v1 and ER7206 v2?
Are there any known incompatibilities between hardware versions?
  Will VPN users/configurations migrate correctly?
Is there a recommended migration procedure from v1 to v2?
Would adding an Omada OC200 controller to the topology help or simplify the migration process?
If I add an OC200, can it adopt the current ER7206 v1 configuration and then migrate or reprovision the new ER7206 v2?

I would appreciate your guidance to avoid complete manual configuration or corruption or compatibility issues on using direct backup and restore fron v1 to v2.

Thank you.

Hi  @Brinistico

Indeed, there is a significant difference between ER7206 V1 and ER7206 V2, making it impossible to import configurations.

To prevent similar situations from recurring, it is recommended to use a controller to manage the devices.

The controller does not have this issue and can generally deliver these configurations directly to the adopted routers.

So, it means that i will have to translate manually all these configurations?

Dual WAN configurations
VPN users and settings (+25 users)
DHCP reservations
Firewall/NAT rules
Load balancing settings

Sounds like a 3 or 4 days of work, subject to human errors.

¿Any TPLINK guide or process to complete the v1 to v2 migration safelly?

You cannot use a v1 backup on a v2, they are quite different internal hardware and the v1 doesnt support half the stuff and features the v2 does

A controller can cross-adopt easily, but it also cannot "import" a standalone configuration, you need to set everythign up in the controller as when it adopts a device, the first thing it does is reset all parameters of the device to whatever the controller is configured with.
