Hello,

I'd like to ask for a firmware update for the TP-PL8030P adapters which is based on the latest or a more recent *.nvm file.

Background:
As far as I know, all 1200 or 1300 Mbit/s powerline adapter are using the same chipset from Qualcomn (QCA7500).
TP-Link is also selling the TP-PL8010P adapters which are similar to the 8030 adapters except they lack two lan ports.

The lastest firmware for the 8030 adapters is from 28/03/16 while the lastet firmware for the 8010 adapters is from 18/08/16 (Day / Month / Year).

The firmware file of a QCA7500 adapter consists of two files.
The first file is the *.nvm file which is the firmware for the chipset provided by Qualcomn.
The second file is a *.pib file (parameter information block) which stores parameter information (MAC-address, tone-map (which frequencies should be used with which power), ...) and is adjusted by the producer of the adapter (TP-Link).

The new firmware of the 8010 adapter has the following nvm file: MAC-7500-v2.2.2-00-X-CS.nvm .
The latest firmware of the 8030 adapter has only the following nvm file: MAC-7500-v2.0.0-05-X-CS.nvm .

As you can see there is quite a big version jump from one chipset firmware to the other.

With a new firmware I hope to get improved performance and stability, therefore I'd like to have a new firmware for the 8030 adapter which is based on at least the MAC-7500-v2.2.2-00-X-CS.nvm .
Devolo also sells 1200 Mbit/s adapters on the German market and they claim that an firmware update (with NVM 2.2.x ...) boosts performance by 20% (though I do not know if that's true or whether they have adjusted anything else like the tone map).

PS: I tried to crossflash firmware : Using the firmware from the 8010 adapters or a combination of the new nvm with the pib from the 8030 adapter but I could not flash the firmware.

While the latest firmware for the 8030P has been a massive improvement on throughput and stability over previous ones, I do second your request for an update to qualcomm base MAC firmware 2.2. The other major manufacturers (Devolo, AVM) have it, TP-Link have it for the 8010 as well as the brandnew 8030P V2, so please release it for 8030P V1 as well.

I'm not sure anyone from TP-Link actually read all this here though.

cheers,
Peter

I have the TL-PA8010P kit and i cannot see the latest firmware you mention , when i download the latest firmware from http://static.tp-link.com/res/down/soft/TL-PA8010P(UK)_V1_160406.zip the file is MAC-7500-v2.0.0-05-X-CS.nvm not MAC-7500-v2.2.2-00-X-CS.nvm ?

The latest 8010P firmware can be downloaded from here: http://www.tp-link.com/en/download/TL-PA8010P-KIT.html#Firmware

I made the experience that you can see different firmware versions when accessing not your local / national TP-Link website but the global one (or websites for other countries).

That's also why I was not aware of the 8030P V2 adapter since they are not shown on the German website.

I have also contacted local TP-Link directly a few weeks ago and they said they will look into this (I've been told that they are planning to investigate why Devolo claims to get 20% throughput improvement with a new firmware).
But since I do not think that this investigation is necessary, I wanted to draw some additional attention.

Today I got another responds from TP-Link support.
They said that they won't start developing / producing / coding a firmware update unless their are new features or bug-fixes.

But why would they only update their 8010 adapters? That does not make any sense to me.

I've tried 2.2.2 on my 8010P, but I didn't see any speed improvements from 2.0.0. The newer firmware performed worse than the older one, so I guess TP-Link didn't get it right.

But there is a massive bug to fix. I have v1 av1200s and they are incompatible with tp-link's latest av1000 units. They surely have to fix that.

Same and since it sucks to buy something from a manufacturer and ending up to NOT recive software update on V1 version I ended doing it by mineself.
Notice: flashing this firmware will probably void your warranty and there will be no support, anyhow it work if you follow the instuction.
It is based upon the above linked firmware (18/08/16) for the PA8010.
READ the instructions before flashing to the PA8030.

UNOFFICIAL_PLA8030P_KIT(EU)_V1_170509

FLASH THIS FIRMWARE ONLY FROM THE PORT 1 DIRECTLY ATTACHED ON THE PC!
WARNING: THE USE OF ANY OTHER PORT WILL TRIGGER THE BOOTLOADER MODE AND DEFAULTING AKA LOOSING THE FACTORY MAC ADDRESS.

Dunno about the stability just got the time to made it today, anyhow there an increase of 5MB/s by selecting the NORMAL mode.
Also, the firmware ditched the powersaving mode, so the powerline will be always ON.

Very interesting and thank you for your efforts.:)

5 Mbit/s is a bit disappointing, I had hopped for a bigger improvement.
(For me personally 5 Mbit/s is not worth the trouble and I do not have any issues at the moment).

The adapter shown in the picture in your zip looks different to mine, my one has a power plug.

BTW: Have you used the stock PIB file provided? As far as I know frequencies and amplitudes are stored in the PIB.
So maybe one could increase bandwidth or amplitude to get higher performance?
