Issues accessing iCloud with EAP245 and Omada
Issues accessing iCloud with EAP245 and Omada
Hi,
I set up 2 x EAP245v3 with Omada Controller 3.2.1 today, and have been facing some issues with connectivity. In particular, accessing iCloud services from an iPhone and a MacBook Pro. Examples of how the issue manifests:
- Messages in iCloud (iMessage) doesn't sync
- iCloud.com background loads, but has a spinning indicator and doesn't show the login screen
- Logging into iMessage doesn't work
- While making Facetime Audio calls on my iPhone, the wifi connection drops (despite standing next to the wifi AP) and falls back to 3G/4G.
- Unable to update apps from the App Store
- Unable to access apple.com
- Unable to ping icloud.com
In all cases, after switching to the mobile (4G) connection, the above services/interactions work without a problem.
While all of this is occurring, internet connectivity otherwise isn't affected (e.g. SpeedTest works).
The router configuration also hasn't changed since yesterday.
This has also been exhibited across both APs.
Both EAPs are powered by 802.3af PoE switch (HiLook NS-0109P-58)
Controller config:
- 2.4 and 5GHz networks have the same name
- band steering enabled
- airtime fairness disabled
- fast roaming, dual-band 11k report and force-disassociation all enabled (though I disabled them and it didn't make a difference)
Has anyone encountered this before? Or something like it? It's... bizarre.

@R1D2 I have a strong hunch that it is due to band steering being enabled in Omada Controller. I disabled it last night. Had a FaceTime audio call today and the wifi didn't drop. Thanks for bearing with me!

Hi @JeremyHiggs,
great you found the cause for interruptions. Yes, band steering can interrupt continguous sessions.
