Model: CPE510
Hardware Version: V3
Firmware Version: 2.2

Hello to all,

I have now 2 lan connected through a couple of WA7510 and they work properly but the connection is sometimes unstable. I've noticed tha the problem is in the wa7510 configured as client. I would like to replace it with a CPE510 HW3 FW2.2. configured in the same way.

-When i try to survey the SSID with my CPE510 client my SSID network does not appear but many of my neighborhood are appearing on the list. why?

-I'm not able to find the "region" field as explained.

Thanks for your help

Update:

I found the 2 field longitude and latitude, filled them with my data (italy) and the country in the status page is germany...

@R1D2 Hi Thank for your help.

Finally I've found  the way to make the link works:

As mentioned before the issue was on the communication channel on my AP tl wa7510 the channel was set to auto and the used channel number was on the low range(36-44) with no dfs.

I've decided to force the channel to 116 with dfs: to do this I've changed the region of the AP to test mode and set the channel to 116 (this channel was allowed also when region was set to italy but in this case  setting the channel to 116 was ignored. Bug???)

Now I have a stable connection even with non ideal placing of the client (it is now outside my window). Asap ill' put it on the roof to replace the other one.

Last note:

on tl wa7510 it is clearly indicated on the top left corner of the screen that the access point is indoor/outdoor. Also the channel list and the firmware is different from mine (maybe because of different region settings US vs Italy)

@Burro, as for the WiFi survey make sure the CPEs are aligned to each other properly. They have a relatively small antenna beam width.

It will last some minutes until they sync or even see each other in a survey, that's normal.

Regarding the region it's funny. I have no such display in my CPE510 HW V3, neither with firmware v2.2.0 nor with v2.2.1 (yes, it's connected to the Internet, Lat/Long set to Rome, Italy):

Do you see the region in the Client or in the AP mode or in both modes?

@R1D2 Hi, thank for your answers.

The 2 AP and client are very close (100mt optical, only a tree between).

The region appears after the I've enabled the test mode through ssh terminal.

I did other test yesterday night and at the end I was able to see my SSID only if i choose Test mode in the region drpdown box. In this case it was possible to link the cpe510 client and wl7510 AP.

Can I ask you where did you find the 2.2.1 firmware for hardware 3.0? i did not foind it anywhere.

Ehm, you link with TL-WA7510? I first thought you replaced them by two CPE510.

According to the TL-WA7510 emulator found here the TL-WA7510 supports only indoor channels. Those channels are not allowed outdoors in the EU. That's why the CPE510 couldn't link to TL-WA7510 b/c CPE510 supports legal outdoor channels only (TL-WA7510 is pretty old gear and regulatory provisions have been changed in the meantime).

I strongly suggest to use only channels allowed for outdoor use.

You can download it here, it installs fine on CPE510 V3: https://static.tp-link.com/2019/201908/20190821/WBS510(UN)_V2.0_2.2.1_Build%20190718.zip

I said already that TL-WA7510 was published at a time where regulatory provisions did allow those channels. Now they don't allow those channels and TLWA7510 is at end of life.

Again: don't mess around with the region settings.

There is a threat of prosecution with heavy fines in the EU. You are interfering with other services in commercial and military frequency band with your APs if you use US channels on TL-WA7510 or Test mode on CPE510. DFS could select channels automatically which can get you in big troubles.

@R1D2

Thank for your information.

the final configuration to have a proper link Is:

tl wa7510 AP region italy channel 136.

cpe510: CLIENT region italy, no other settings. in this may no mess with region settings.

Hope this post helps others with same issue
