Model: TL-R600VPN
Hardware Version: V4
Firmware Version: TL-R600VPN(UN)_v4_4.0.4 Build 20200313

Is there any plans to add Omada 4.x SDN support for the TL-R600VPN V4 router?

I have seen other posts saying that only new business class products will be supported by the newer SDN. Am I wrong in that I assume this model is still a current newer model? Seen as it is listed as the only current SMB router listed on the website.

Dear @BAlexander,

Is there any plans to add Omada 4.x SDN support for the TL-R600VPN V4 router?

Sorry that there is no plan at present to add Omada SDN support for the current SMB router including TL-R600VPN listed on the website.

So far, only the routers in the Compatibility list below support Omada SDN.

@Fae  I guess I should return the TL-R600VPN router I just purchased. And wait for the release of a router that is compatible? So far those 2 "compatible" routers are not available for sale (not seeing any listing in USA market).

If you could pass this on to TP-Link management:

Please add Omada 4.x SDN support to your current business class products. By continuing to add new features to existing products, makes existing customers feel good and have a favorable view of TP-Link products. That in the long run, will pay off in repeat business and something that is better than any advertising can do, that is "word of mouth" recommendations for your business class products from customers to other IT professionals.

Or force customers to have to buy the newer model (that looks exactly the same with same specs as the current model, just rebranded). Now I have to go back to the client to inform them, that this current router is not compatible and even after purchasing over $2000 of TP-Link equipment, they will have to purchase a 2nd router, so they can have the SDN solution that wanted. Currently this type of experience is not one that I would want to repeat with other clients in the future.

Thank you for your generous advice, I'll try forwarding this to the management for future evaluation.

@Fae I tottaly agree with @BAlexander. I sell to many clients an "affordable" solution including Omada APs, Jetstream PoE Switch and R600vpn. You really should consider provide an update to this model for Omada SDN supporting.

@BAlexander

Yeah this is a bummer. I suppose I should blame myself, or Amazon for selling me a Router and Switch that "looks like" it should work with Omada but doesn't. It's unfortunate but I guess this is what we get for buying budget network equipment.

@BAlexander

I just purchased a TL-R605 from amazon.com at $59.99 which according to https://www.tp-link.com/en/omada-sdn/product-list/ is supported by Omada Controller. There are only 3 still in stock (minus the 1 I bought that I guess will be sent on monday).

It's odd that the spanish version of the omada product list https://www.tp-link.com/es/omada-sdn/product-list/ shows not only the TL-R605 V1 but an additional compatible router TL-ER7206 V1 (which I think I've seen somewhere will be released by end of January) while the english version https://www.tp-link.com/en/omada-sdn/product-list/ only shows the TL-R605 V1 router. The main difference seems to be the addition of an SFP WAN port.

@Tintronic Maybe they was updating the webpage while you posted that. It shows both routers on the english page for me.

But the issue with this thread is not either of those new router models (TL-ER7206 or TL-R605), it is the compatibility of the prior model TL-R600VPN. At that time (October 13, 2020) it was the only current business class router model for sale and it not being compatible with Omada SDN.

@Scoop Oh for the love of Reading. See the post above yours. You will see it's not about expecting a "$60 router" to perform above its class. It's about the only "business class" router they had and how it isn't compatible with Omada SDN. If you're still having trouble understanding, then maybe just stay out of it.
