Good morning,
I have the following strange problem:


I have at home an OC2000 with 2 x EAP 245. However, the internet speed of the provider is a lot lower than in the old situation with 2 x a unify AP, which were only 2.4 ghz and also much less in terms of hardware. What could be the cause of this? At work, we also have EAP 's 245 and they run much faster with the same internet speed of the provider.
Can I check the settings somewhere, all is default and should be fine?

 

 

Is WMM under Wireless Control/QoS a solution? Where can i find that in the settings?

If you could provide us with some more information on your setup we should be able to help you with this.  

 

Are you running the APs in 2.4 or 5ghz mode?   Is band steering enable and do you have fast roaming enabled?

 

Anything you can tell us please do.

 

If I was you, I would first rule out the LAN by doing IPerf tests.  This basically transmits data on your WiFi / LAN and doesn't involve the internet, therefore you can test the speed internally.  If that's ok its your internet.

For the 245 I would expect around 400/500mbps on 5ghz

Yes, both 2,4 and 5 ghz are enabled, below the information for the band stearing en fast raoming (AL roaming not enabled)

 

i will do a IPerf test.

Nothing strange there, however I would recommend you enable AI roaming as it appears to help load balancing better

 

That aside, nothing fancy there

 

What type clients are you running on the network and what volume of clients?   what have you tested this on?

I think you can also try disabling band steering and fast roaming. Seems sometimes those features will affect the network speed and stability.

Mobile phones 3 x, tablets 2 x, smart tv 2 x, ring camera 2 x, doorbell 1 x . 

normally +- 18 clients are conenctes with one of the eaps 245.

Personally, I wouldnt jump to turning off band steering or roaming until you know the IPerf results.

 

Without knowing where the bottleneck / slowness is here you are just randomly shooting in the dark.    Did you get a chance to do any IPerf tests?

Tanks for the answer, i have also donne a RF scan by the eap downstairs (most connections on this eap) See the images. maybe i cann better choose another channel, now i have both on auto channel?

Hi Mark, at least you are not alone in experiencing poor speeds with the EAP245.

I just bought a few Omada switches and an EAP245v3 myself and I'm and the most I can get out of a 80Mhz MCS 866 channel is a little less than 40Mbits down and 100Mbits up. This is all tested with iperf in the LAN and in a reasonably RF-quiet suburban neighborhood. Restarting the AP, trying other channel widths etc have no major impact. In comparison the Mikrotik HAP ac2 that was about to be replaced get's 350-400 Mbits on the same settings.

 

Needless to say I'm very disappointed in the performance of the TP-Link. I will try to get it replaced and I'm considering a 620HD instead but they are such an eysore to have on the ceiling compared to the 245.

Have you both tried forcing the bandwidth to 80mhz instead of auto?

 

Some clients dont always negotiate correctly when on auto, forcing it to the full 80 does help

 

Any more info you can provide would also help
