AP Grouping
AP Grouping
Hi,
Currently trying to switch over from a UniFi stack. (UDM Pro, 2- 24 port POE gen 2 switches, and 5 APs, 1 Outdoor, 2 AC Pros, 2 U6 -Lites) and a mix of G3 and G4 cameras, 12 total.
With my UniFi Stack I am broadcasting 4 different SSID's.
1 SSID is being broadcast on 1 AP only.
2 other SSIDs are being broadcast on two other APs.
The final SSID is being broadcast on all APs.
Is a configuration like this possible with Omada? I cannot seem to find AP grouping or its settings in the controller GUI to define SSID's too specific APs. Am I missing something?

No I do not know anything about the future plans of TP-LINK, they tell nothing maybe @Fae have som information about what to come.
As I know, there is no plan to add the AP Group at present. I'll forward this to the developer team for further evaluation.
Update: FYI, the Omada Controller v5.0 will allow disabling SSID broadcast when using the SSID Override feature.

I have all my SSIDs made a total of 4.
How do I stop an SSID from being broadcast on an AP? It seems like the override only lets me change the name, password, and VLAN, but not actually stop it from broadcasting on a specific AP.

To do that you have to create wlan group.
but be aware that roam between wlan groups especially on wifi guest can cause problems.
with portal authentication you can not roam between wlan groups without re-authenticate on each wlan group.
Unifi removed wlan group and replaced it with ap group some time ago, this makes it a little more flexible and you avoid roam problem between wlan groups. tp-link still only has wlan groups but they will hopefully follow with ap groups in a while.

That is way harder than it needs to be...
Seems like they should have the option of what APs or AP groups to broadcast said SSID on in the WLAN config settings for each WLAN, with a default group that contains all AP's.
Do you know why devices must reauthenticate when moving between groups?

it must be reauthenticated for each wlan groups for it seen as different networks, this is avoided with ap groups, that is probably why Unifi go from wlan group to ap groups as well.

Yeah, I was going to say I never dealt with that with UniFi. Seems like a much better solution to go with AP groups rather than WLAN Groups.
Do you know of any plans for Omada to support AP Groups? It is way more customizable and intuitive.
@Fae Would you be able to chime in on this?
Thank you
