ER605 v2 DHCP on VLAN's ?
ER605 v2 DHCP on VLAN's ?
2022-06-05 11:35:17
Model: ER605 (TL-R605)
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version:

Can anyone confirm/deny if the ER605v2 can:

1) Setup a DHCP server for each defined VLAN ?

2) Set DHCP address reservations (via MAC address) within each VLAN ?

There is nothing in the manual to say this is possible, with DHCP only available on LAN1, however, I have seen mention of this issue back in 2021, but nothing since to say if this functionality was actually implemented.

DHCP only available on LAN1, the one you mentioned has been changed by updating the firmware version to optimize it.
You can try updating the firmware version of the router or the controller to the latest version.

Just striving to develop myself while helping others.

  @Virgo

Thanks for getting back to me...

Reading the docs, when setting up a new wired network, it looks like the 'Interface' option sets up a Layer 3 VLAN, and 'VLAN' option sets up a Layer 2 VLAN

I not currently using an Omada router (its arriving tomorrow...), so I currently have 1 Interface (default VLAN ID 1) and 5 VLANs (ID's 20,30,40,100,200) setup on the network., as I understand it, my current router is performing the Layer 3 functions for the current VLANs (like DHCP, routing etc...).

When I replace my current router for an ER605, will I just have to reconfigure the current VLANs as 'Interfaces' to retain the same functionality. ?

  @Tescophil

do you mean vlan 1 192.168.0.1/24

vlan 20 172.168.1.1/24

vlan 30 10.0.0.1/24

vlan 200 192.168.200.1/24?

like this? if so, yep. each vlan got its own subnet.
since update ver 1.1.1 for er605 v1, i remember that function has been added. for your h/w v2, don't worry. it's there.

ScReW yOu gUyS. I aM GOinG hoMe. —————————————————————— For heaven's sake, can you write and describe your issue based on plain fact, common logic and a methodologic approach? Appreciate it.

@Tescophil

You've probably received your router by now and maybe even hooked it up.

I have the v1 ER605 (despite the fact that it was purchased within the last couple months) and in my experience, you can expect the router to handle DHCP per VLAN.

I set everything up using this FAQ: How to configure Multi-Networks & Multi-SSIDs on Omada SDN Controller | TP-Link

And some component on my network (OC200, ER605, 2x SG2008, EAP245) handles DHCP. I assume it's the router (the docs are not very explicit about this).

I have not added reservations and they appear to be global (not per VLAN) but if the devices are hooked up to ports with the appropriate profiles, I don't expect you to have issues.

1. You can set up DHCP per vlan on the router

2. You can use your own DHCP server(s) (I use Windows) to provide DHCP

I assume you are using an Omada controler.
