Model: OC200
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version:

I know firmware updates are underway and recently version 5.9 was released: https://community.tp-link.com/en/business/forum/topic/245226

My question is when will this be available for OC200/300?

I know that the post says: "Omada Controller v5.9 for OC200/OC300 will be released soon one after another, please wait patiently.".

BUT, how patinetly should we wait. There has been no updated to the hardware control since version 5.7.6 on 14th of December 2022!

That's now over 3 months ago and in the meantime there have been two updates (v5.8 and 5.9) for the software controller.

Is TP-Link not serious about the OC200/300 hardware controllers and should we all change to software based controllers?

  @aschmid I think we can all agree TP Link have majority screwed the people that actually purchased their hardware at this point.  I am very close to just abandoning the OC200 I have and throwing it in the bin as clearly it's worthless.

I've never seen a company work so backwards.  Whats worse is I can't even import my OC200 config (5.7.6) into the Windows software version.....

Sad.  They locked the other thread as well.

@MrHC1983 exactly that is further contributing to the problem. I tried as well to export/import my config from an OC200 into the new Linux version of the software controller but it's a no go as it doesn't work. The export works fine but the import fails telling me it's from an incompatible version (5.7.6 to 5.9)?

Now I'd have to redo all my configuration on a fresh install Omada software controller. It's probably 1 to 2 hours of work but it's completely besides the point because then I am stuck on the software controller version assuming that the reverse export/import back to the OC200 will also not working once/if it get's updated.

So then I can throw the OC200 in the bin which is a piece of hardware I purchased for specifically this purpose.

  @MrHC1983 I've started the charge back process for the oc200 I bought, and cited this forum/lack of updates to my credit card company, stating it's unfit for purpose.

I'm also going to move away from my tl605 router ASAP.

I'll keep the EAPs as they are fine,  the rest not so much: what a shame. Tp Link have really messed this up.

  @QuietAdmin I'm with you. I am also thinking about throwing tp-link out. Omada with an affordable hardware controller was the reason to buy all network devices from tp-link. Seeing the OC200 being neglected over the last couple of months makes me angry and disappointed in the company, regretting my decision.

  @aschmid

Thanks for raising this question.

Wondering exactly the same thing when I read your post.

Is TP Link reading this forum, or they don't get these messages?

  @MarcelvE

They do.

But we're over and over getting the same sentence here:

  @Hoamboy

Thanks!

I made a ticket with the TP-Link helpdesk.

Will probably get the same sentence  :-(.

I like the omada concept, but the switches etc. seem much more capable when accessed directly, not using Omada.

I have been waiting for the new software update for the OC200 for about two months now. Due to the lack of updates and new features, I switched to a Linux-based software controller from my "official" TP-Link hardware controller. Although I would prefer to use the OC200, I am not very optimistic about future software updates. Due to this, I have no intention of purchasing any more TP-Link hardware in the future.

  @MrHC1983 I'm actually surprised that tp-link didn't release the 5.8/5.9 first for oc200/300 as it is their physical hardware solution. I personally prefer running oc200 over software solution. But I'm along the same mind set as number of folks commenting in this thread. I might give up on the oc200 and spin up a VM to host a software solution as it seems to be more regularly updated.

I am not so surprise that TP-Link didn't release Omada 5.8/5.9 for OC200/300 first as it's their release strategy to bring out the software version first and then update the hardware version. It does make sense in some ways as their might be hardware specific configurations that need to be done. So all good for this point.

What does raise some red flags for me is that after the Omada software controller version 5.8/5.9 the OC200/300 didn't get any updates:

Omada software controller version 5.84 for Windows was released on 6th of Jan 2023, Linux version on 30th of Jan. Here should have been an update for OC200/300.

Then Omada software controller version 5.9.9 for Windows was released on 22nd of Feb with Linux following on 28th of Feb. Here should been an update for OC200/300.

Now Omada software controller version 5.9.31 for Windows/Linux was released on 13/21st of March ... and still we are waiting for an update for OC200/300.

The OC200/300 have been passed over two times for updates and we are at the third time where one would expect an update to be available.

I think at this point it's fair to ask the question: What's going on here?
