Model: ER8411
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.2.1

I tried using the TorGuard OpenVPN service as the client on the ER8411 and didn't work.. the Log say the following

OPTION error: Unrecognized option or missing parameter(s) in /etc/openvpn/client_client0.ovpn:15: tls-crypt (2.3.8).

OPTION error: Unrecognized option or missing parameter(s) in /etc/openvpn/client_client0.ovpn:13: tls-crypt (2.3.8).

I contacted TorGuard but they are unable to help (at least going in circle)

@mbze430 I have the same problem.

Each now and then I'm checking if Omada finally supports modern Openvpn. Time passes and all my networks still require Raspberry PI as VPN client/router.

Other unsupported options from my ER706W's logs:

OPTION error: Unrecognized option or missing parameter(s) in /etc/openvpn/client_client0.ovpn:8: pull-filter (2.3.8).

OPTION error: Unrecognized option or missing parameter(s) in /etc/openvpn/client_client0.ovpn:13: data-ciphers (2.3.8).

Fortunatelly this router is in standalone mode, as adoption to Omada deprives you from any Openvpn logs.

Regards,

M.

  @JackShepard

Thank you for the heads up.  I am about 2wks into my 30days refund period and there are quite a few things that isn't sitting well with the ER8411.

How long have you been waiting for?

I decided to VPN my sites in late 2022. And since then I have no luck in moving OpenVPN client from RPI to Omada routers. There is probably a chance that my configuration is not supported, but there is no clear information about that. To be honest I have never reached for a technical support with the issue, RPIs are doing their jobs. Maybe we will make TPLink publish reference config files for modern OpenVPN?

I was finally able to get it to work.  Both tested in the Standalone and under Omada Controller.

I don't understand why the WebGUI has to be IP and not allow FQDN.

Anyway I had to find the IP address of the FQDN that allow me to use it.. so if one VPN connection site has 9 different IPs i had to try each IP till it works.  Change the *.ovpn file with the IP address.

Also, for some strange reason, in standalone mode, you have to go to the last tab where you view the tunnels and keep hitting refresh, usually 3-6 times will make it work (if it works).

Good to hear! Can you paste here a redacted .ovpn file? Or a least tell if your has , , and sections?

edit: xml tags were removed, I mean ca, cert, key, tls-crypt sections

Thank you!
