Model: EAP660 HD   TL-SG3428X

Firmware Version:

Devices

Wireless AP: EAP660 HD(US) v1.0

Managed switch: SG3428X v1.30

Controller: OC300

SFP+ transceiver: 10Gtek ASF-10G-T

Supported data speeds for the SFP+ transceiver:

  • 10G BASE-T IEEE 802.3an
  • 1000BASE-T IEEE 802.3ab
  • 100BASE-TX IEEE 802.3u
  • 5G MGBASE-T
  • 2.5G MGBASE-T

Regarding the devices listed above, I currently have the 2.5 Gbps RJ45 port of the wireless AP connected to the SFP+ transceiver on the switch. In the Omada dashboard I can see the negotiated speed of the wireless AP at 2500 Mbps but the port on the switch shows at 10 Gbps. I also see a number of Rx dropped packets and Rx errors for the AP. There are 0 Tx dropped packets and 0 Tx errors.

Is my setup incorrect and causing the Rx dropped packets and errors? I'm trying to read up online to learn more about the correct way to use SFP+ transceivers. I think that the transceiver and AP negotiate at 2.5 Gbps because they both support that speed, but the transceiver and SFP+ port on the switch communicate at 10 Gbps which is causing the Rx issues mentioned above. Am I supposed to enable flow control and/or jumbo frames on the relevant SFP+ port on the switch? Or is the correct way to get this AP working at 2.5 Gbps to get a new Omada switch that has 2.5 Gbps RJ45 ports?

The switch only supports 1 or 10Gbps.

The interface would only stay at either 1 or 10Gb as for the fiber interface.

As for the RJ45 to your AP, you refer to the actual link speed on the AP.

If they negotiate at 2.5, then you are good. No worries.

The two interfaces are separated and displayed differently. We would never know what the RJ45 speed is as it only connects the fiber interface.
