V6 - The App / Other Issues
I have a ER7412-M2 v1.0, this thing must be perfect no firmware updates. It's powered by a Linux based Omada Controller. I threw my OC200 out the window, it was so slow it wasn't worth having. Three AMD Cores at like a few percent limitation WAY FASTER then that OC200 I had with 3-4GB RAM.
The OC220 ...... hmmm nobody has reviewed it I wonder why.
The v6 Omada software appears to be an improvement but we need mass polish on that and fast. TP Link need to think like TECHS, so anyone in the industry managing multiple sites, different customers and requirements. TP Link need to think about quick problem solving and what you need from this.
Unifi are better in some ways, not all, Omada is better in some ways. Both have Pro's and Con's. The Unifi however........ has one MAJOR thing, it focuses on the fact it's a router routing traffic, and traffic can have problems........ so everywhere you go in a Unifi setup it's showing info about ports, computers, all the traffic being used......... the internet continous up/down by the second.
If you have ONE MACHINE grounding a network to a halt, it's quick to find and deal with, if you have a network loop same thing.
TP Link I urge you to think like a MSP dealing with multiple customers. We need QUICK solutions to things. I will say your Bandwidth Control is AWESOME for Office/Internet management. QoS ...... is bad, real bad, wireguard is terrible. I think the Fail Over stuff is OK, could be better, easier to use, setup, load balance.
Again I am missing my one feature I requested probably two-four years ago now. The ability to set CUSTOM DNS for Static IP based reservations!
I also wish some of your routers had the ability to run some dockers, I would run Pi Hole and AdBlock with reserved IP's if I could, hell LanCache as well if we could fit a M2 to the router to handle that. Pipe dream I know.
And then when is the iOS App going to support V6, it's given various messages. Incompatable, update app etc.
Also Linux ........ can we not make it so it self updates via the control panel, why do we have to do it manually via SSH?
I wish there was more releases.... Weirdly I went to Omada for crypto mining originally, to get a router that could deal with the epic traffic involved. It did it's job, now I work with alot of businesses in a MSP type environment again using alot of Omada, Unfi and alot of other brands of things.
Has TP Link seen WireGuard Easy. It's awesome. As in the control panel, the feedback showing traffic, connections etc. When I logon to my omada I want to see traffic, I want to see the most relevant information, the clients area is so static. The entire panel needs to come alive with flowing information.
Please take all of this and grow from it.
The V6 .023 ...... seems OK. The previous V6 version I found my OpenVPN connection at work kept dropping off remotely. Maybe my ER7412-M2 v1.0 not liking V6? Maybe the controller software V6 itself dunno.
I would love a complete RETHINK of QoS ....... this weird dividing up the internet by 4 is odd. We need packet priority and MINIMUM bandwidth reservations for different things........ not requiring out of 100% or defining it. So eg. We can see a connection speed OR it could determine it, itself on occasion running it's own speed tests. And then ensure certain forwards or services have a minimum you can set. eg. I would set x port forwards to ensure a minimum of 5-20mbps for example. If I have 1000Mbps, it never allows anything to run past 995...... I know most gigabits run 940 so you'd just set it that that knowing it wouldn't exceed 935 or whatever.
Sorry thats my rant/feedback.
I always look forward to adopt your new early access stuff, just wish it would continue a bit quicker. As much as you guys release new stuff, there's never actually any new features really, it's just rebuilding the GUI a million times, we also need new features.
PS. Oh and I also want to see LIVE TRAFFIC for Port Forwards........ Mbps up and down......
