Firmware Version: 6.2.10.18

Hello,

I am currently running:

  • Controller: OC220

  • Controller Version: 6.2.10.18

  • Firmware: 1.5.18 Build 20260506 Rel.79588

  • Gateway: ER605

DPI appears to be working correctly because I can see application and category statistics under Insights → Application Analytics.

However, I cannot find the Users tab that would allow me to identify which client/device is generating the traffic for a specific application.

My understanding is that previous versions of Omada, and apparently the Software Controller, provide an Apps / Categories / Users view. On my OC220, only application and category information is available.

Could TP-Link please clarify:

  1. Is the Users tab intentionally unavailable on OC220 hardware controllers?

  2. Is this a known limitation of OC200/OC220 compared to the Software Controller?

  3. Are there any plans to add per-client application analytics to OC220 in a future release?

  4. If this feature existed in previous versions, was it removed, and if so, why?

Additionally, I am considering migrating to the Omada Software Controller running on a Raspberry Pi 5.

  1. Can a Raspberry Pi 5 running the Omada Software Controller fully replace an OC220 for a small home network?

  2. Would the Software Controller on a Raspberry Pi 5 provide the missing Users tab and per-client application analytics?

  3. Is it possible to run the OC220 and a Software Controller simultaneously on the same network for testing purposes, or can Omada devices be adopted by only one SDN Controller at a time?

Being able to identify which client is responsible for a specific application's traffic is extremely useful for troubleshooting and network management.

Thank you.

Hi  @afreisinger

Thanks for posting here.

To answer your questions:

>>>For hardware controllers, only OC400 support this feature. All software controllers also have this feature.

As for the future plan, unfortunately, community team won't know the plan. However, we did not add this feature due to hardware performance limitations of the devices, so I believe the likelihood of it being added in the future is low.

Additionally, I am considering migrating to the Omada Software Controller running on a Raspberry Pi 5.

  1. Can a Raspberry Pi 5 running the Omada Software Controller fully replace an OC220 for a small home network? >>>For a small home network, it is fine.

  2. Would the Software Controller on a Raspberry Pi 5 provide the missing Users tab and per-client application analytics?>>>No, All software controllers have this feature.

  3. Is it possible to run the OC220 and a Software Controller simultaneously on the same network for testing purposes, or can Omada devices be adopted by only one SDN Controller at a time? >>>What do you wan to test? If just want to check the avalaible features, you can test one by one. For example, when check OC220, unplug the software controller, and vice versa. If there are two controllers plugged into the same network at the sametime, the SDN devices may not be properly adopted.
