Wondering if there is a way to calculate what the Transmit Power should be based on distance for a CPE210.

I setup 2 CPE210's for a client a while ago, it is fairly short range (200 ft, or ~60m). They contacted me & say their speed vary's quite a bit with as much as a 50% loss in throughput between the devices (tested using speedtest.net). After a bit of research, I am almost certain that I have the transmit power set too high (left on the default 27dBm). There are only a few other APs on different channels nearby, so I don't think it's an interference issue (I could be wrong though).

Is there anyway to calculate optimal transmit power or is it more of a trial & error thing.

Would love to get some input on this before heading out there again next week.

Thanks

if if only for 60 Mts you should set the power of the equipment at maximum 13dBm on both devices to get the best signal levels in signal strength and SNR ... remember that the values of signal strength values are shown in negative and the closer to zero will be the best and CCQ while levels closer to 100% will also be better ... for more understanding of what I say should refer to this link to the knowledge base specifically point 4. Precise alignment ... http://forum.tp-link.com/showthread.php?86640-Filed-Test-Remote-Wireless-Surveillance-with-Pharos-CPE510

Thanks for that info! That will give me a good starting point for troubleshooting when I'm on-site next week.

Much appreciated! :)

Can anyone pls clarify the maximum Transmit power of SXT 2?As per specs the chip has 32dbm max transmit power and the antenna is 10dbi. So the total max transmit power out of the antenna is 42db=15.85watts?Am I correct?

Im sorry STX2 is MikroTik brand ... Wrong forum....

Technically how to obtain the total EIRP is the same in any radius ...

well it says at full burn it can supply 2W of constant power. Watts is volts time amps, so 2W at 5vstandard USB woudl be 0.4Amps or 400 milliamps. I think a PC power usb port is 500 milliamps, so it should charge a USB gadget at about the same rate as charging from a PC.

Yes, that's correct. See http://www.rapidtables.com/convert/power/dBm_to_Watt.htm for a converter from dBm to Watts.

But regulations won't allow such a high EIRP, be careful to not exceed the maximum allowed EIRP in your country!
