Newby Question re Powerline

Good evening all,
Whilst trying to view my live security camera on my 'phone I couldn't log in to get a connection. After calling Swann (Camera Company) it seems I had no TP-Link connection upstairs to my Camera DVR. Eventually I found that the cable was not working correctly, but after replacing it thee was still no connection. I tried swapping TP-Link boxes and also connecting a laptop. This showed I had two connections, the router wi-fi and the TP-Link, therefore it had recognised the TP-Link, but there was no internet connection. If I switched from the TP-Link to the router wi-fi, I immediately got a Google page up and running, so I cannot figure out what I might try to fix this problem.
Anyone out there have any ideas as to what I might have done wrong, or what's going on, please?
May thanks
HoraceM
