Hi all

I have the TP-Link Archer VR2800 and so far I am having no issues with this router. The connection is stable (no disconnections) and everything appears to be working normally.

 

I am having some difficulty though in understanding some entries in the router logs and I was wondering if anybody could help enlighten me to what the following entries mean:

 

2019-01-15 11:40:09 [6] PPP: ppp1 rcvd [IPCP CodeRej id=0xa4 45 00 00 34 b9 04 40 00 3f 06 9a b4 57 73 be f6 95 ff 3b a2 e3 0

2019-01-15 13:16:12 [6] PPP: ppp1 rcvd [LCP ProtRej id=0xd3 90 00 45 00 00 34 b7 02 40 00 92 06 b6 ac 57 66 1e f3 d6 bf 3b a2

2019-01-15 13:46:07 [6] PPP: ppp1 rcvd [LCP ProtRej id=0xd4 ac a1 45 00 00 34 15 bb 40 00 9d 03 05 bb 59 20 3e d0 a0 fe fb 52

 

Tried Googling them but all I could find was that LCP = Link Control Protocol and IPCP = IP Control Protocol, but I am still at a loss as to what these entries mean.

If anybody could help explain them to me I would be grateful.

Hi,

 

It's just one part of the establish of PPPoE connection between the modem and your ISP. They exchange data to negotiate then finish the installation.

Thanks for the reply Kevin_Z.

 

I did notice entries similar to this when I first setup the router. The LCP and IPCP entries referred to when I first connected to my ISP.

However these entries are occurring on a daily basis now even though I have been connected for 45 days. I assume "CodeRej" means code rejected amd "ProtRej" means Protocol Rejected. Is it my ISP trying to assign me a new IP address and it is being rejected?

 

As I said before, the router is stable and working fine. It is just curiosity to know what these entries actually mean.

You might need to know the PPPoE is used for both ipv4 and ipv6 I suppose that if you disabled ipv6 on internet access you will get no this reject code

You're exactly right.

 

I got an official response fron TP-Link Support:

 

"The logs you've sent to us means IPv6 protocol reject as you don't have IPv6 service from ISP. Usually we have IPv4 service for internet and don't need IPv6. You may go to the TP-LINK management page, go to Advanced->Network-> Internet, edit your pppoe connection(WAN interface name begins with pppoe) and disable IPv6. "
