Model: Archer C1200
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version: 2.0.2 Build 20180118 rel.38979

When my WDR3600 died after 4 years of duty without any issues I got a C1200 V2. The newest firmware version was installed instantly via the auto update (it's the same as on the website, I checked) and it was set up properly. However, it reboots randomly - not very often, but still. I have encountered it about a dozen times during my first year of ownership now and it is really annoying. There is no heavy load on the device at all, my internet is only 20/5 Mbit and there is only one PC wired to it, and one PC / one tablet / two mobile phones via WLAN - but never at the same time, usually it's only one mobile phone using the WLAN.

I have no explanation for this and recently it rebooted while i was in an online multiplayer game, which is simply unacceptable. It just happened again today when I was lying in bed, surfing on my mobile phone like I've done thousands of times before...I don't know what's wrong with this device but I am kind of sick of it by now.

I have searched this community but I did not find anything recent about it, only with old firmwares for V1 devices. Does anybody have similar issues or even solutions?

@PrasenGupta

Hello all, sorry for any inconvenience caused for the reboot issue you encountered with the Archer C1200 router.

Please ensure you are running the latest firmware on your C1200 router, which can be downloaded from the TP-Link official website. If you still encounter the auto-reboot issue when running the latest version, please check the below beta firmware that provided by the R&D:

Archer C1200(EU)_V1: https://static.tp-link.com/2020/202001/20200103/Archer C1200(EU)_V1_180308(Beta).zip

Archer C1200(EU)_V2: https://static.tp-link.com/2020/202001/20200103/Archer C1200(EU)_V2_180308(Beta).zip

Archer C1200(US)_V1: https://static.tp-link.com/2020/202001/20200103/Archer C1200(US)_V1_180308(Beta).zip

Archer C1200(US)_V2: https://static.tp-link.com/2020/202001/20200103/Archer C1200(US)_V2_180307(Beta).zip

Below is the guidance to install it manually on your router (Method 2):

https://www.tp-link.com/support/faq/2139/

Note: This beta firmware is mainly built for the auto-reboot issue on the Archer C1200 router, if yours is not the auto-reboot issue, DON'T upgrade to this firmware. Meanwhile, please verify the hardware version and region version first before the upgrade, a wrong firmware upload may brick your device and void the warranty, thanks a lot~

More specific symptom of the current randomly reboots issue will be better. Besides, you can try to install the firmware below to give it a go. http://support.tp-link.com/f/003141499f/?dl=1 9 (For US version) http://support.tp-link.com/f/b8a47891b4/?dl=1 (For EU version) You can look the bottom label of the actual device to verify it is EU/US version. May it help.

I have same issue, sometimes there is no internet at all (few times per few hours) and random reebot for me is at least once a week. I updated firmware now to this beta version and soon i will post if it helps.

UPDATE

It looks like firmware fixed my issue.

What do you mean with "more specific"? I gave all the information that I have, there is no more info regarding this issue. Maybe you could elaborate? And thanks for the firmware.

Hello,

like the light status of the C1200 auto-reboot issue, whether it will go back to work automatically and so on.

Besides, back to your case, did you update the firmware? Does it work?

Any updates, just let us know.

Good day.

Hi, yes, a reboot implies that it reboots itself and comes back to life automatically :). The lights all go out and it takes a few minutes until it's back up (first only the first light, then after some time the others too). It happened again yesterday by the way, in the middle of a PUBG match, not acceptable. I was not able to test the new firmware so far, but I will do it as soon as I get some proper time =).

Hello, Mr.Reese,

Thanks for your reply.

You can take some time to do a test with the firmware.

Any updates, just let us know.

Good luck for you.

Nice day.

If that helps, the first thing the system log of the router shows after the reboot is a TCP-SYN flood attack. But I am not sure if that has anything to do with the issue at hand, because the system log is deleted by the reboot anyway. I increased the TCP-SYN flood limit from 400 to 800 packets/sec. But anyway, if there was an "attack" (I don't think that there is one, I have no issues at all and my TCP connections show nothing out of the normal) the router should just block it anyway and not crash and reboot :D.

Hello,

The system log does not matter, it won't affect the performance after confirmed with our engineers.

Back to your case, does the router work regularly after firmware upgrade?

Good day.

Hi BartW,

As long as you remember the firmware version before you updated it, you can flash it back to the original one.

The operation steps are the same like what you did to update it.

Good day.
