RE450 DNS Problems
RE450 DNS Problems
Helo there,
I am using the TP Link RE450 with a Router from the German Telekom (Smart 3).
Everything works fine but every 20-30 Mins I won't have internet access anymore with the browsers (in different devices) throwing DNS errors.
What can be the cause of that? In the main router DHCP is enabled. In the RE450 it is disabled
Thanks

Hi,
With your device connected to the main router directly, do you have the same problem?
What is the light status of the RE450 when the DNS errors occur?
With your device connected to the RE450 by wired cable, can you access internet? What is the IP address and gateway obtained?
Note: Here is the instruction: https://www.tp-link.com/support/faq/838/
Meanwhile, how far away between the RE450 and the main router? And what about the signal strength?
Sorry to be all questions, but without knowing what’s going on it’s hard to propose a fix.
Thanks in advance, and have a nice day.

1. The Main network does not throw the error
2. As far as I know the LED's stay the same
3. My PC is connected via LAN but still no internet (DNS Probe)
IP Adress of the RE450 is 192.168.2.140 and of the PC 192.162.2.130.
Both have 192.168.2.1 as gateway (which is the main router)
4. Signal strength is good (circle is blue and GUI shows good)
Thank you for helping out.
Have a nice one.

Hi,
Thanks for your reply.
What is the current firmware version of the RE450?
Please show us a screenshot of the DNS errors page.
Besides, when the connection drops out, can you login to the web GUI of the RE450? If so, please take a picture of the status page and go to system tools-system log to save the log and export it to us.
Good day.

Hey there,
1. Firmware: The installed Firmware is the newest available on your website for v2 devices " RE450(DE)_V2_171220"
2. I cant give you screenshots, as i am at work right now but Chrome throws "DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NO_INTERNET" and "DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NX_DOMAIN".
(Same problems occur with different browsers.)
3. The RE450 is not accessable anymore when he gets stuck in this mode. It will only work again after being plugged in and out.
I viewed the system-log from time to time after these downtimes happened, but the log did not show anything non normal.
I think it is because the RE450 loses the 5G connection (but LED is still on) and is than unable to reconnect to the ISP's DNS Server (even when 2G is functional).
Doesent matter if Im connected via LAN or WLAN.
Greets.

Hi,
What is the wireless stability with your device connected to the main router's wifi when the RE450 drops out? Can you access internet right now?
The IP address you obtained is still the valid IP address, have you ever tried to reboot the computer and reconnect to it to check the IP address?
Besides, you can try to ping the gateway of the router.
What is more, what is the serial number of the RE450? When and where did you purchase it?
For your last reply, there is no big difference between V2 and V3, while the hardware cannot be upgraded and the firmware must match the hardware version.
For more details, you can refer to the user guides.

Hey there,
i can connect the internet right now, but just because i unplugged the repeater and put it back it. It would not work on its own again with just waiting.
I bought it from amazon.de and got it a few days ago. I had one already like 2 weeks ago which i handed in for change since it had the same problem.
The Computer is not the problem here as other clients have the exact same problem.
Pinging the gateway does not work if the RE450 is in that state of error. The gateway itself (with its own network) is up and running.

@Findus I've the same problem with my TP-Link RE455 and is very tedious because even power off the repeater fix the problem.
I'm using the repeater with an Italian FTTH Router of technicolor
Thanks
