Hi all

Some time ago, I had my custom DNS (Pihole) set up via the DHCP DNS settings, but after an update at some point, my wifi started acting up - as I remember my phone lingered on a specific station even though I was in the other end of the house. I disabled the custom DNS and all went back to normal.

Fast forward to the other day where I tried to add the custom DNS again but this time in the IPv4 settings described here: https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/faq/1855/. I didnt go well as the router crashed and suddenly assigned a new IP range to my network (192.168.1.* -> 172.16.0.*).

Which way is the correct way to enable a custom DNS and is it supported in 1.3.1 build 20190617 rel. 47476?

\Mikkel

@Mikkelmaan

What is the current network diagram?

In general, if the WAN DNS or WAN IP is in the same network segment as the LAN IP, it will cause the IP conflict.

So it is recommended to change the WAN DNS and make it not in the same network segment as the LAN IP.
